These days everybody is talking about attending Kumbh mela in Prayagraj, India. Millions of people from around the world visit the Kumbh Mela primarily to take a ritual bath at the Triveni Sangam - the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythological Saraswati rivers. People believs that this act cleanses them of sins and brings spiritual liberation.
The Kumbh Mela is popular in India because it is considered one of the most sacred Hindu pilgrimages, where millions gather to bathe in holy rivers at auspicious times based on astrological calculations. It is considered a pilgrimage for Hindus to reaffirm their faith and connect with their spiritual roots, attracting millions of devotees from all walks of life to witness the unique cultural and religious ceremonies associated with the event. This massive gathering, held every 12 years at rotating locations, represents a unique blend of religious faith, cultural practices, and a deep connection to ancient mythology surrounding the "churning of the ocean" story. This year it is in Payargraj city of Uttar Pradesh.
The Kumbh Mela is held at four different pilgrimage sites - Haridwar, Prayagraj (Allahabad), Nashik, and Ujjain - which rotate every 12 years. The festival is rooted in the Hindu legend of the "Samudra Manthan" (churning of the ocean) where a pot of Amrita (nectar of immortality) was spilled, with four drops falling at the locations where the Kumbh Mela is held. It is considered one of the largest peaceful gatherings in the world, attracting pilgrims from across India and beyond.
The Kumbh mela is a renowned global events too. It attracts a lot of foreign tourist. It is not only about just another travel trip, but these biggest gathering is a journey of the soul, an exploration of India's ancient traditions, and a window into the heart of a nation. The Kumbh Mela is known for its grand processions, including the "Shahi Snan" (royal bath) by Naga Sadhus (naked ascetics), which are a major attraction. The festival showcases diverse cultural practices, including religious discourses, music, dance, and traditional crafts. It is a massive gathering of people from all walks of life, fostering a sense of unity and shared spirituality.
Already, many Sadhus and Saints started to gather at the event place. There is lot of news on TV or internet about their unique style. I learned about chotu baba, a 4 feet sadhu who has not bath since 32 years. Similarly. There is Chabi wala baba who is carrying 20 kf of Chabi (keys) and talk about human awakening.
The government is making sure that, the event goes on peacefully. The government is using high-tech security measures, including AI-powered cameras, drones, and underwater drones. There will also be a seven-tier security system, with 10,000 more police officers than the previous Kumbh Mela. Apart from the security all arrangements were made to accommodate all the visitors. Tents, toilets, foods were arranging in mass scale.
