Work From Home; My Best Plug #199

(Edited)

Most people believed that work from home started during the COVID 19 pandemic. Well, let's not lie about it, I myself thought so too until I went on a research. You know one good thing about the internet, right! It keeps records. You might have known before now or you might not have known at all, that the system of work from home started way back as far as 1973 to 1983 by a NASA engineer by the name "Jack Niles" when he laid the foundation of telecommuting.

Look at me here all this while thinking that remote work started during the COVID 19 pandemic 😩

Well, let's forget the when and how remote work started. We are not here to dig history, yeah I know. So, back to the main gist 👇
Based on your own job hunting and work experiences, which do you prefer, working from home as a freelancer, or working outside the home where you get stable monthly pay? Why?

Hehe! In 2022, I worked as a secretary in a betting company. I used to come home late and the next morning, I will leave as early as 7:00am so as to report to work by 7:30am latest. I never really had time for my kids, This continues from Monday to Saturdays, then Sundays, I will still have to come to work. Gosh! That was annoying. Thank God my boss was generous enough to ask me to be working from home but only on Sundays. That was a relief, and yes, your guess is right! That was when I knew what work from home feels like.

Yes, that feeling of waking up, knowing

  • that you don't have anywhere to rush to or anyone to hold you late.
  • that you have escaped entering from one bus stop to the other.
  • that you can actually work in your pyjamas and no will question your dress code 😂
  • that you can take a break at anytime when you feel overwhelmed and sleep, knowing that you can actually attend to other things of life while also handling client task
  • that your work doesn't limit you to movement, you can actually Travel to anywhere while still working with your client.

Tell me, who doesn't love that kind of work/job. Well, each job has its own cons and pros, there are people who in a thousand years to come, they will still choose working from outside and there are still people who will choose otherwise. I have had my own good and ugly share from working outside home. Good share because I enjoyed and love the people I met, the facial connection and the memories we shared as a team. Yeah, that's one thing working outside home offers, the opportunity to shake hands and connect physically.

Then here comes the ugly side, I have come in contact with so many managers who wanted to take advantage of me, especially from my last job. My boss? He was nice but his two managers? Oh no, I wonder where those men came from. Up till now, I still leave in the fear of working from office especially in a place where I am the direct contact to the boss or manager. I dread it

As a Social media manager/Administrative assistant, I have also tasted what working from home feels like, Oh mine! I am sure you wouldn't want me to go back to describing it as I have already given you a picture of what it looks like. But guys! It feels so good working from home, exception of the fact that it

  • can make you miss vitamin D a whole day 😂
Yeah, you know that moment when you wake up and the next thing you do is grab your laptop and phone and report to work without knowing whether the sun came out that day or not.
  • And then it limits you to offline connections.
Freelancers can't deny this aspect, I too face this same challenge but I have found a way to deal with it which is a story for another day.

Sincerely speaking, I miss going out there connecting with different vibrant minds but that's far from it, I prefer being a freelancer and I have my reasons, it comes with this sense of freedom...

  • As a mother, being a freelancer gives me time to look after my kids. I know what is going on at my home and how to control it.
  • Being a freelancer has given me that freedom of mind. I know I am safe from the opposite gender who would stop at nothing but to take advantage of women out there.
  • Being a freelancer gives me freedom of movement. I get to go anywhere I want without anybody's permission. As long as my clients work is done, I am good.

That's it
Thankyou for reading to the end, I hope you enjoyed reading through ☺️

I understand your points.
The truth here is that both job models have their good and bad sides. And except a person is able to conbine both(which would be time consuming and tiring, of course), he/she would miss out on getting the benefits from both ends. It's just to pick a side.

Yeah, it's true, the most important thing is just to pick one and love it.

The people I met was one of the good things indeed, but the time waste, the bad attitudes, yelling sometimes?? NOO NOO!! This happens with traditional jobs

Both work models have their good and bad sides but in whichever model we choose, we can decide to compliment the part that is lacking in the work models we choose.

Working remotely does not allow for letting up with people but then, we can create time to socialize with others at our free time. It all about making up for the part that's lacking.
