The Picture of a Thousand Words: You Won't Know Your Potential Until You TryHi
Each of us has unique talents and abilities within. Sometimes, discovering these gifts takes time, and other times, we only realize them by trying new things. Often, it’s through pushing ourselves to attempt something we might initially doubt that we uncover our true capabilities.
In this post, I’ll respond to a few prompts to explore this idea.
Describe What You See:
I see a man working intently, painting or coloring on his drawing paper.
Describe What You Feel:
I imagine he’s been assigned a project or task in school. Though he may not excel at painting, he’s determined to complete it himself. With no one else to help, he improvises, embracing the challenge in order to succeed.
Dan's Discovery
Meet Dan, an undergraduate student at the University of Toronto. For years, he managed to get through assignments and projects without ever picking up a pencil or paintbrush himself he always had someone else to help.
But as graduation approached, Dan faced his biggest challenge yet: submitting his thesis. This time, the project required him to create a drawing and painting. Yet, to his surprise, no one was available to lend a hand. With no other options, Dan finally sat down to tackle the work himself.
As he sketched and painted, something incredible happened he realized he had a natural skill he’d never noticed before. Though his hand wasn’t perfect, he found joy in the process, and his efforts were more than enough to earn him the grade he needed.
Dan’s story reminds us that we often don’t know our true abilities until we step out of our comfort zones and try. We are all capable of more than we think, as long as we’re willing to put our minds to it.
Thank you for reading, and have a wonderful week!
I believe a little child is painting here.
