Dioscorea alata, also known as purple yam, ube, water yam or greater yam, among many other names, is a species of yam.

That taste very good and love by many people around the world, this species bears bunch of tubers, that will come with many branches and sub branches, they are very watery in nature in the sense that If not carefully handle it might fell down and Break into pieces.

They are planted in the sense that once it will started growing a tree or big stick with be giving to it as support mechanism and it will climb it, when climbing that means it will bears a lot more tubers as times goes on.

If planted in a loamy soil the results will be a lot more achievable than that of clay or Sandy soil, due to their how they were made loamy soil is very good and advisable for where to plant this specie.

The tubers are usually a vivid violet-purple to bright lavender in color, but some range in color, in my locality is popularly called Water yam, this species is called water yam because it tends to stored large amount of Waters in the tubers as such promote growth in every stages, it has leafs more like three leafs yam but it leaf are vertical in nature than that of three leaf yam.

Once maturity stage is due and the farmer do not noticed it, the species will now decay the tubers and germinate a young one which will replace the motherboard and the young one will be feeding on the decay of the motherboard till it maturity stage is due.

Water yam as popularly known in my locality is rich and costly in the market and at some point you hardly see it if you want to buy it.

After harvested it, it is advisable to keep it for two or three weeks before consumables and if you stick to the instructions you will have the real tastes of water yam, such that you will be lonely for where to buy it and consume.
