A miracle (Un milagro) [EN/ES]
A miracle
Aldana was carrying the fruits and vegetables home in her wheelbarrow. It was getting late and the children were waiting for their mother so they could eat. Worried about her children, she ran with her cart through the streets that showed a hint of darkness, while the hours went by.
The mother with a knot in her stomach prayed to get home in time, she urgently needed to bring them food to calm their stomachs. Aldana let glimpses of tears fly in the night wind, as she ran with her wheelbarrow along the dark and hard asphalt.
She carried the anguish on the tip of her tongue, and in a low voice she cursed the poverty in which she had her children, because of an alcoholic father who one day left, leaving the poor woman with her three children. She concentrated again on the white line of the pavement and wearily tried to devour the distance with a gluttony of insatiable speed.
At that instant, a dark car zigzagged by. The drunken driver moved the steering wheel erratically and with a blurred lucidity pressed the pedal to the accelerator, losing track of time and reality. In microseconds the black car hit Aldana, everything seemed to go in slow motion, vegetables and fruits were flying in the air, as if they were going to be expelled into space.
Aldana's body was thrown out into the dark firmament, she felt the air pass through her long brown hair. Then the encounter with the ground was not long in coming, her battered humanity went back to the pavement and then a sepulchral silence.
The woman opened her eyes and her world had gone vertical, in that instant she watched as the black car sped off, leaving her all battered and with terrible pains that scratched every part of her being. "Help! Help! Help! Please help me!" she screamed in agonizing desperation into the deep dark.
A scent of lily began to flood the air and wafted in from a vague point, it was intoxicating and filled the woman lying on the cold asphalt with peace. At that moment, a small, snow-white, matted-haired dog approached Aldana.
The little dog looked at the woman, shaking its head from side to side and Aldana said, "Go, little dog and get help, get someone to help me, please.
The little animal would stick out its tongue and then lick Aldana's face, that sensation of friction between tongue and skin made the woman feel sleepy and she closed her eyes for a moment, losing herself in a worm tunnel with a glowing light at the bottom.
Aldana opened her eyes and looked at a beautiful green grass as far as the eye could see, a clear blue sky covered that landscape like a mantle, and a golden rainbow in the background. The woman would get up and start calling out to whomever she could. "Is anyone here, who can tell me where I am?". She would place her hands around her mouth to make the call louder.
She started walking towards no specific point, then she heard a friendly bark, she turned to see it was the cute little white dog, the little dog approached the woman and jumped into her arms. Aldana sat down on the grass and started petting the furry companion.
"My little canine, do you know where I am?" She stroked his belly as the little doggie squirmed.
"That's enough, Aldana, you make me laugh so much, hahaha."
The frightened woman threw the little dog down and put her hands over her mouth. "You spoke."
"Haha, sure, woman, I'm your guard dog and I brought you all the way here." The little dog stood up and shook itself wagging thunderously.
"My guard dog?" Aldana would open her eyes to the fullest extent of their sockets.
"That's right, since time immemorial we have been guardians of humans and we protect them until their life ends, then we bring them here to pass into the afterlife."
"But, but... I can't be here, I still have... My children... they will be left alone..... No, no... You can't do this to me." Aldana held her head and cried madly.
"This is the way things must be, there is nothing we can do. Now come let's go to the golden rainbow so you can pass to the other side." The little dog went ahead showing her the way.
Aldana knelt and kept shedding tears of deep pain for what she left on earth, she suffered for her little children who would be left alone and unprotected. The little doggie would grab the woman by her flowered skirt to make her hurry up or the portal to the afterlife would close.
"Come on, Aldana, we must get through the portal before it closes or ugly things will happen, no one has ever stayed here until they close the portal." The little dog was expressing a certain unfamiliar fear.
The woman regained her sanity and asked the little dog, "What kinds of things will happen."
"They say a dark vortex is created that leads who knows where? It's better not to find out and get out of here." The little doggie pulled the woman by her skirt.
Just as they were running towards the portal, Aldana fell and lay on the grass, unable to react. The little dog was pulling hard, but could not get the woman to react. The gate had closed, and the dog and Aldana were trapped.
Then everything started to become black as night and the beautiful landscape became terrifying, a vortex that was created in the sky started to suck the woman and the puppy, everything became confused and both hugged each other tightly.
"This is the end, Aldana!" cried the little doggie in despair. "Aaaaah!"
"Fate has given you another chance," a voice could be heard coming from the vortex.
After a moment the little dog and Aldana disappeared into the vortex...
"Doctor, doctor, the woman is waking up," the nurse said as she entered the recovery room.
"What happened, where am I?" Aldana was trying to elucidate her reality.
"Miss, you are in the Angel's clinic, you were brought by a policeman who found you badly injured, the policeman says that your dog was the one who led him to you."
"I don't have a dog." Aldana rubbed her eyes to clear the images.
"Look at him, here he is." The doctor was walking in with the little doggie in his arms.
"My guard dog." Aldana's eyes were shining and tears were falling from her eyes.
"Calm down don't cry, this little guy saved your life, you must be very grateful to this little dog."
"My little ones, you are alone, I must get out of here."
"Don't worry, we contacted a relative of yours and the children are fine, they will soon come to see you. Now you must recover."
After all this Aldana's life improved, she adopted the little dog who became her best friend, her children are now better and between the doctor and her love started to flow.
The little dog will continue to take care of his human, while Aldana thinks that everything that happened in limbo was a dream.
“Guau, guau.”
The end
Yo no puedo estar aquí, aún tengo... Mis hijos... se quedarán solos... No, no...
«Yo no tengo perro».
«Guau, guau».

¡Thanks for you reading!
Hi @rinconpoetico7. This is a very dramatic and compelling story. You did a nice job of incorporating the prompt words. It's amazing how she narrowly escapes death and the transfer from life into death!
We have some feedback for you on this story, as there are a few details that disrupt the story's quality. The first sentence does not make sense in English:
When we used a translation tool to translate the Spanish version of the sentence into English it translates as follows, which is perfect:
Another problem you should address is that sometimes you write the mother's name as Aldana and sometimes as Aldaba. We just recommend that you read your stories through carefully before posting. Thank you!
Thanks for the clarifications, if the problem with the translator is a constant struggle. I'm going to make the changes.
A hugs @theinkwell!

A touching story of a mother's love and second chances. This is a great story. I was captivated and glad that aldana didn't leave her kids behind.
In truth he had a second chance to restart his life, many times tragedies are points of new beginnings in a life.
