Fiction: Living life (Vivir la vida) [EN/ES]
Living life
It was the last paper of the day and his head kept spinning along with a chronic pain that had become part of his life. He stood up from his chair that had been molded to his body for 10 years. Looked at the dull-colored paintings and let out a big sob.
Staring at the window that showed the soft sunset, the man thought, "I have wasted my life within these 4 cold walls. My life has lost the essence of joy and I am left with only meaningless living."
He put on his jacket and picked up his briefcase with heaviness. Opened the door and with an almost pitiful languor, walked outside to take his transportation home. Darkness was beginning to fall like the curtain of a pitiful theater.
He had sat on that same bench for 10 years. He knew practically all the movement of the traffic and the people walking through the area. He took an Aspirin out of his briefcase and took it along with a swig from the water bottle.
"How did I come to this, I've become a social zombie. Everything tastes insipid to me and I just wish my life would end, maybe then I can be happy at another time, on another existential plane," he spoke aloud, attracting the unsuspecting glances of passersby.
In the background, he could see the bus that would take him home. He stood up with an exhale of frustration and as he fixed his brown eyes on the vehicle, out of nowhere a motorcycle appeared, its rough and imposing shapes filling the man's eyeballs, who had no choice but to cover his face with his arms and wait for the terrible blow.
After a few seconds, the man heard a screeching of tires and then a silence that was immediately interrupted by a voice, very angelic and melodious. "Excuse me. I hope you are well."
The man uncovered his eyes and immediately looked at the person in front of him. The helmet was removed revealing a beautiful woman, eyes as warm as the sun itself and a smile that enchanted the eyes of whoever saw her.
"Don't worry. It was nothing, it was just the scare." He tried to sketch a smile, but his nerves made the corners of his lips wobble. "I'm so glad. My name is Katherin."
"I... I... My name is... Ruben."
She flashed a tender smile that lit up Ruben's eyes, and then she asked, "Can I carry you?"
Ruben felt his knees would give out and let him fall, he caught his breath and sketched a few words, "I'm sorry, but with what just happened, you don't give me much confidence."
"Come on, cheer up. I'm very good at riding a motorcycle. Besides, it's free, haha." She passed the helmet to Ruben, while she winked at him.
He could not resist that unparalleled charm and let himself be carried away by that woman, who had bewitched him. Ruben got on the motorcycle and grabbed the woman by the waist, and immediately Katherin took off at full speed. The night wind caressed the man's face and he felt what he had lost years ago between the routine of work and the problems of life.
Ruben felt himself fly and smiled, it had been many years since he had been so happy. Katherin turned to look at the man. "Hey, can you come with me to a place? I have to do something."
Something made Ruben nod his head and he didn't care where the woman took him. He just wanted to continue feeling the freedom he had lost in that office. After a few hours, they arrived at a very luxurious restaurant. Katherin stopped the motorcycle and got off. "Wait for me, please, I won't be long."
She moved her hips with such sensuality that Ruben was mesmerized. After a few minutes, screams could be heard and Katherin came running out. "Start the bike!"
Ruben felt his heart racing and had no choice but to start the bike. Katherin sat down and they started, but not before seeing a man draining wine with noodle sauce all over his body. The man cursed Katherin and she laughed like a madwoman, as the adrenaline flowed like waterfalls through the fugitive bodies.
"What happened? And who was that man?" asked Ruben trying to assimilate everything that was happening.
"That was a jerk. He wanted to marry me and I found him in flagrante delicto with the mistress. I just went to tell him I wasn't going to marry him anymore. Haha."
Katherin opened her arms and Ruben felt her energy of freedom infecting him, Something was going through the man's mind, something that brought him back to life. "Wow. What a way to end up with your fiancé! Haha."
"I'm like that, spontaneous and I like to live life as it comes. Now let's dance."
Ruben lets himself be carried away by Katherin's overwhelming way of seeing life and making up for lost time. They danced for several hours to the sound of alcohol flowing through their veins. When they finished, they went to the beach, sat, gazed at the full moon, and talked for hours.
"Years ago I didn't have so much fun. I became a living dead, until today. I feel so alive that I don't want it to end." Ruben let out a sob into the air and then put the bottle of wine to his mouth.
"That's too bad. It's sad to see how people end their lives in empty jobs and at the end of their lives realize they had wasted it." Katherin took a sip of wine. "I never saw myself like that, I always considered that life is much more than what we are shown. So far I can say that I have lived fully doing what I like and not getting carried away by what people say."
"I admire you, Katherin. I haven't met someone like that with your energy and joie de vivre. I'd like to catch a little of your way of being."
Katherin's eyes turned to Ruben, and the attraction made them give each other a big kiss. Rubén took Katherin to his apartment and there they consummated their passion. At dawn, Ruben awoke to find Katherin gone. A sadness invaded his heart and sobs welled up in a continuous cycle of melancholy.
He got up and walked to the kitchen and on the table, he saw a note. "Dear Ruben. I loved meeting you and had a great time with you. Thank you for joining me on my little adventure last night. I had a lot of fun. Now I must go, I will travel all over the world and enjoy the rest of my life. Life is a breath of wind and it ends when we least expect it. It may sound crazy, but I feel that you want to be free, so I'll be waiting for you at the airport, gate three, the flight leaves at 11 am. If you decide to stay I will understand. Big kiss."
Thousands of feelings swirled in Ruben's head. He didn't know what to do. The doubt was killing him. He had to leave everything and start a new life with Katherin or continue in his old life. After much thought, he grabbed a suitcase, packed everything he could, and left for the airport, leaving his whole life behind.
He got to the airport and ran all over the place looking for gate three, finally, Ruben found it, but no one was there. He watched a plane take off through the airport windows and knew he was too late. He turned around and ran into that woman who taught him and would teach him how to live life.
"Hello, Ruben, what took you so long? Haha."
The end
«No te preocupes.
«Me alegro mucho. Me llamo Katherin».
«Yo... Yo... Me llamo...
Ahora vamos a bailar».
Jaja».
