Not giving up

“How did it go son?” the mother asked.

“Mommy, I don't think I was born for this.” The boy pouted.

“Oh, my precious boy. Don't worry, try to enjoy it. Remember it's therapy.” The mother hugged her son and pressed him to her chest.

“Mother, let go of me already. You're so affectionate. Yuck.”

“I won't let you go until you promise me you will. Haha.” The mother was still squeezing the child.

“Ok, ok, but let go of me.” The boy ran to his room.

“Jordy, remember to fix your room.”

Susan had separated from Jordy's father more than a year ago. He was her only son, about eleven years old, with blue eyes like his father, hair like the sun's rays, and brown freckles as many as the stars in a night sky, a charming smile even though he hadn't shown it for months.

He had done everything possible to ensure that Jordy had a good life despite the difficult situation he was still going through. Susan was sitting in the dining room. She covered her face with her hands. She remembered that moment when she found her husband with her best friend.

The marital bed had been stained by the passion of the couple's sin. Susan felt her blood boil, and then she left that room with tears of frustration and hatred running down her snow-white complexion. Her hair, as red as autumn leaves, fluttered in the summer breeze as she ran.

Terrible months passed after that encounter, and Jordy still couldn't accept his new situation. His parents were no longer together. Now, it was just him and his mother. Together, facing the life that challenged them to move forward with their love.

“Jordy, you're late for your Karate class.” Susan had found an escape for Jordy from his stormy reality, and what better to vent all that frustration with Karate.

“I'm coming, Mom. I just lost my belt, and I can't find it.” Jordy raised the tone of his voice.

“What a messy boy!” Susan was frowning as she scolded her son. “Look inside the closet or under the bed.”

“I already found it. Don't worry.” Jordy was changing the tone of his voice to a kinder one. “I'll be right down.”

Jordy and Susan were on their way to Karate class. The rain accompanied the dark afternoon, not only in the weather but also in their lives. Each was dealing with their suffering and pain in their own way.

“Good afternoon, Mrs. Susan and Jordy.” The sensei greeted them effusively.

“Good afternoon, Kevin.” The mother let out a small gasp. “Sorry, we're late. We're just running a little late.”

“No worries, Susan. I was just about to start class.” Kevin invited them to continue. “Today, we will have some qualifiers to participate in the martial arts tournament. Good luck to you, Jordy.”

Jordy ducked his head as his mother hugged him. “Thank your sensei, Jordy.”

“Thank you, sensei.” Jordy ran out to the locker room.

“Excuse him, Kevin. It's been so hard for him to get over his father.” Susan would let out a sob.

“I understand the situation, but believe me, Jordy is someone different when he practices. He forgets everything and enjoys what he's doing, even though sometimes he gets frustrated and says it's no good. I tell him he's excellent, don't back down.” Kevin flashed a smile. “Susan, if he likes, he can stay and watch the playoffs.”

“Sounds great to me. I'll stay and watch.”

Kevin guided Susan to a special place to watch the fights. Susan looked at Jordy and waved her hand in greeting. Jordy covered his face and shook his head from side to side.

The sensei was organizing the fights to select a representative for the tournament. Susan watched excitedly as her little boy competed. It was the first time she saw him fight, and he seemed like someone different. She had discovered a new side of her beloved son.

The first phase of the bouts was relatively easy for Jordy. Susan was excited to see her son win the fights. An effervescent joy rose from his stomach to his head.

“Come on, Jordy, come on!” Susan shouted.

After beating several opponents, Jordy reached the finals. He and his mother were excited. He imagined himself in the martial arts tournament and winning the state championship.

“Jordy, Jordy, wake up.” The sensei snapped his fingers at him.

“Come on, son, give it your best shot to win. Yeah!” Susan was very excited.

“Guys, get to the center. Remember, low blows don't count. The chest hits 2 points, and the head hits 3. The first one to complete five points wins. Be good competitors and salute each other.” The sensei signaled for the fight to begin.

Jordy started by throwing paws and fists synchronously. His opponent did the same. It was a very close fight no one wanted to lose. Sweat began to run down the foreheads of the fighters, giving everything to win.

Minutes passed, Jordy was tired, and his rival took advantage and hit him in the head. Jordy fell to the blue mat while Kevin showed three fingers to his opponent. Jordy took a second wind, got up, and continued the fight. He didn't have to let his opponent hit him again if he wanted to win.

Jordy managed to concentrate and inspired by his beloved mother, he managed to hit his opponent's chest. Kevin showed two fingers. The opponent became angry and began to be more aggressive. Fatigue was taking its toll on Jordy's strength, and in a slip of the tongue, the opponent made a sweep, which knocked the tired boy to the mat.

Susan screamed, “That's a foul, no good!”

“First foul, second time you'll lose the fight, you hear.” Kevin urged Jordy's opponent.

The sensei gave a five-minute break for the boys to recover. Susan went to help her tired son. “Come on, son. You can do it.”

“No, I'm too tired, and that boy is too strong. I don't want to go on anymore.” Jordy's eyes had lost their sparkle.

“Come on, son. You've come so far, don't give up. I discovered a new side to you today, and it made me so proud to see you there fighting, just as we both fight to get through each day despite the difficulties. You are stronger, son, to face this fight and the fight of life. Remember that together, we will win. I am with you, my boy. I love you." Susan kissed her son and returned to her post.

Kevin called the fighters to the center and signaled for the fight to begin. Again, the blows came and went in a dance of movements. Inspired by his mother's words, he gained confidence and began to dominate his opponent.

His mother bit her nails, watching the intense fight. In her mind, she kept repeating, “You can do it, my boy.”

Jordy could see for an instant the carelessness of his opponent and connected a blow to the head. The opponent fell to the mat, and Kevin ended the fight with Jordy as the winner. His mother ran to embrace her son and together celebrated.

“I did it, Mom, I did it! haha!” Jordy shouted excitedly.

Susan shed a few tears and understood that she could move forward with her son without hesitation. “You did it, my boy. You did it. I love you.”

No rendirse

No te preocupes».

«Agradece a tu sensei, Jordy».

«Gracias, sensei».

«Me parece genial. Me quedaré a ver».
