Gift in Distress
Gift in Distress
Today, I came to participate in this week's call where we were asked if we had been given a gift of coffee.
The question that we were asked during this opportunity brought to my mind a gift that I gave to my mother on Mother's Day. I begin to narrate the experience of that time which I titled Gift in a Hurry. Haha.
It was Mother's Day in my country, around this time commerce was very busy, people brought gift packages, flowers of all colors, candies, cakes, clothes, and everything that could be obtained with a bunch of bills. Haha.
Although Mother's Day has a more commercial tinge, it lends itself to detail to show the mother how much she is loved and to thank her for all she has done throughout the year and a lifetime. I resume my narration.
On that day, when the sun was relentless, over the hurried bodies that were looking for the perfect gift that fits the budget that each one has according to their income generating capacity.
As I walked quickly through that street full of people with the same objective as mine, I eagerly searched for the right gift for my dear mother. Everything I looked at seemed so ugly, expensive, simple, small, very big, excessive..., and all the adjectives that could describe what came to my mind, as I saw each of the gifts displayed in each improvised store.
Sweat was running down my forehead along with the anguish of getting something nice for my mother before they closed the sales on that street. The bodies were getting in the way of my anxious mission, the desperation was beginning to show in my mood and good temper, which was degrading as the hours went by.
The sun was beginning to disappear on the horizon, and I was still searching tirelessly for the gift for my mother. Some stalls were starting to put everything away. The rush of time was becoming more and more distressing. I thought I couldn't buy anything with so little time.
I also had to add the money factor, which at that time did not come in large quantities and was another limiting factor in my almost impossible mission, haha. I didn't lose hope of finding the perfect gift for my mother, but everything was playing against me to prevent me from getting what I longed for.
At one point I was about to throw in the towel and give up, while I was thinking of something alternative to give my mother, in a stall I looked at something that caught my attention, a porcelain mug, but not just any, but one with a beautiful religious image. I knew my mother very well. She was a firm believer with great faith. I immediately knew that this was the right gift for her.
I paid the price for the beautiful mug and bought some candy to put in it. I ran before night fell relentlessly, and arrived home. I searched every room in my home. I found my dear mother in the kitchen, who welcomed me with a warm smile. At that moment, I knew that the hustle and bustle and stress of that day was worth it.
She received the gift with much joy and love, as I had thought the mug she loved so much that she could not resist the urge to drink a delicious coffee in her new favorite mug, and then I thought, “Mission accomplished, haha.”
Looking through my archives I found a picture of the mug, which unfortunately broke some time ago, and here I show it to you.
