International Coffee Day | Memories and feelings
International Coffee Day, memories and feelings
Today, I celebrate with you this great day that reminds us coffee lovers that we have a great companion that accompanies us in all moments of life regardless of the time, the day, sad, happy, sleepy, low spirits...
I am writing this post out of competition, but I did not want to be left out of the celebration of this day for those of us who love coffee. I remember a coffee that a stranger shared with me many years ago, a feeling that has inspired me to write, about what coffee means to me, and in the end, a surprise.
Memories
Many years ago, I remember working in a construction company, there were many people, workers, architects, administrative staff, and cleaners, someone who worked in the latter was the one who gave me a coffee without expecting it.
I remember that at 10 a m, all the workers took a break, it was the ideal time to rest and have a delicious coffee to continue with a lot of encouragement in the daily hustle and bustle, each doing their assigned work.
On that day of terrible cold and with traces of rain falling on the facilities, hot coffee was the desire of all workers to warm up and lift their spirits.
Happy hour arrived, and we all gathered in a small improvised establishment, where food was sold, especially coffee, it was not very elaborate, but it was delicious and fulfilled its primary function, to give warmth to the body and energy.
I remember that I entered the establishment and asked for a robust and hot coffee, and I needed to calm my body with some caffeine, after leaving home in a hurry and without breakfast. I checked my pockets and realized that on that morning after I had been stressed about leaving for work, I had forgotten my wallet. I could not believe my bad luck, I had my delicious coffee bewitching me with its intoxicating aroma, and I could not enjoy it.
I ducked my head and turned around to get out of there. At that instant, I heard a cordial and soft voice. “Wait!”
I turned and looked at who had said those words. She was one of the women working in the grooming section. She approached me and passed me the cup with the coffee. I could not believe what was happening, a person I did not know was offering me coffee. A little stunned I just said, “Thank you.”
She smiled and invited me to sit at one of the tables set up for lunch. In addition to the coffee, the woman offered me breakfast, and as hungry as I was, I could not refuse the invitation. During that hour, we chatted and struck up a beautiful friendship, and after that day, we alternated paying for coffee and breakfast.
She was kind and helpful, always with a warm smile ready to help. At the end of the work, all employees were fired, and until that day our friendship lasted, I never heard from that person again, because, at that time cell phones were only for calls, and very few people had these devices.
The beauty of this experience was that through an insignificant event, a great friendship was born over a delicious cup of coffee.
Feelings
For me, coffee has become something essential to life. Coffee has become a bridge of inspiration. My best writings have emerged from a cup of coffee, so every time I go to write, a delicious coffee accompanies me in inventing fantasy worlds, unforgettable characters, and immersive plots.
Besides accompanying me in my creative moments, coffee has also become that social catalyst that helps me break the ice and strengthen bonds of friendship and fraternity with the people around me. There are many friends I have made, loves that have been born, and family ties that become strong with a cup of coffee in the intimacy of a conversation.
On my low-mood days, coffee helps me improve my mood, and the sadness goes away with every sip of caffeine that floods my body with energy. Coffee will always be my company at any moment and existential stage, an unconditional friend that is always there embracing me with its aroma and exquisite flavor that takes us to the ecstasy of life.
Surprise
To end this simple tribute on International Coffee Day, I leave you some verses that I wrote in the heat of a cup of coffee.
i forget your name,
i play with the senses,
i'm looking for new friends.
In the heat of a cup of coffee,
i'm navigating between letters,
creating illusions,
seeing fantasies.
In the heat of a cup of coffee,
i sigh in sadness,
i smile in the good times,
I meditate on solitude.
In the heat of a cup of coffee,
i get caught up in the scent,
i delight in the taste,
I wake up with caffeine.
In the heat of a cup of coffee,
i live my days in harmony,
in the candor of friendships
that are born with every sip.
Loves that come and go,
between bitter and sweet tones.
Happy International Coffee Day!
