#STB Coffee Prompt Week 53 | Difficult times
Difficult times
It was the year 2500, and the Milton family had moved to the city, because with the climate change a strong drought developed and spread quickly a disease called 'Roya' (Hemileia Vastatrix) and destroyed the coffee plantations, not only theirs but also those of the region, So the father of that large family decided to migrate to the city to undertake a new task, he already had a reference of the city of Acarigua, which was prosperous and offered them well being, Alberto did not think twice, coffee growing had taught him so many things that he carried them rooted in his soul.
When they arrived, they began to clean the house they had bought located in the center of the city; it had a colonial aspect that they liked very much. Maria, cleaning the kitchen area, found a package of sealed coffee, she called her husband excited and showed him what for them was a treasure; they had not tasted that delicacy for years.
They opened the package and the aroma of coffee enveloped them all, the man felt so much nostalgia that he burst into tears, it hurt him deeply to have left his ancestral roots, but he had to think of his family, he took courage not to break down in front of his children and embraced them.
Maria with the emotion that it produced, decided to brew the coffee to taste it, with the haste of a lover; everyone at the table waited to enjoy those scenes and the aroma when the mother prepared the exotic drink for them when they took the first sip, the acidity, the bitterness, and the sweetness exploded in a symphony of flavors in their mouths and for a moment they felt in paradise. The caffeine elevated them to the maximum and the energy flowed through their pores, taking them to ecstasy and recalling the memories of times when coffee was part of their lives and could be easily found anywhere, but now everything is different, coffee has been lost in time.
That same night Alberto decided to return to his village and replant the farm, he felt vulnerable in that place, for this he sought technical advice and agrochemicals to control the pest, he already had a plan: He would look for a variety resistant to the disease, which mainly attacked the foliage of the plant and so he did, luckily in the house he also found some coffee beans of a variety resistant to the disease, 'Catimor T-5269', but it was not resistant to the new version of the 'Roya', It took three years of hard work, but he had succeeded in creating a variety that fought the new 'Roya'. The Milton family became the main suppliers of that variety with which all the producers wanted to resuscitate their coffee plantations.
On the other hand, at the same time as producing coffee, they decided to start up coffee shops in the city. The curious thing about these is that the coffee is brewed, not processed in a coffee machine; this is Milton's secret that has turned them into a national reference.
