Memories in caffeine

Tim closed the newspaper, and sipped a delicious espresso, then put his hand to his chin, and began to think about how this great discovery might help him in his dilemma. His light brown eyes focused on the blue horizon.

"I can't lose anything if I try," he said to himself as he got up from the coffee shop and left the place-bound for home.

Tim had been abandoned since he was a little boy, he didn't remember much of that time, only that he was left in an orphanage and then adopted by a very wealthy couple. Today he is a big businessman, but he has always wanted to know why he was abandoned and who his mother was.

He arrived at the beautiful Victorian-designed house, the white and dark blue matched the walls of the facade giving a touch of elegance and distinction. He opened the door and the maid greeted him, "Good morning, young Tim, I'll make you something to eat."

"Don't worry, Hortencia, I just came to change and go out for a business meeting," Tim would tell the woman as he tossed the newspaper on the table.

He would go upstairs to the bedroom, and with the news of the coffee invention coming back memories drilling through his head, he decided to try the miraculous dark elixir. He went down to the first floor picked up the newspaper, looked at a phone number, made the call, and asked for a sample.

After a few days, the order arrived on the doorstep, and Tim with an effervescent excitement that turned to butterflies in his stomach, received the package. There was a note on the package with some instructions for use and preparation. Tim made his way to the kitchen, his quick, yet uncertain steps with a million questions leading him to his destination.

Tim left the package on the kitchen counter and called out to Hortensia. "Hortencia, if you would be so kind make me a nice espresso as you know how, please."

"As I ordered, Sir." The woman took the package and quickly began to prepare it just as the instructions said.

After a few minutes, the porcelain cup was poured accompanied by a warm smile from Hortencia. Tim thanked the woman, took the cup, and headed for the living room. After a few moments of staring into the gleaming, off-white cup, he picked it up the cup, and a sigh escaped into the air as the delicious aroma of espresso invaded his nostrils.

A sip full of hope and reunion with the past embraced his taste buds and then made Tim fly towards a delicious infinite taste, which lifted his spirits and filled him with excitement about the idea of recovering his memories, at that very moment the man fell asleep.

Images began to haunt Tim's mind, they seemed like little short stories, but in conjunction with the same story. A memory of his childhood came to the man, he saw himself in a very poor house, and his mother in the background crying disconsolately, on the stove a sooty pot was boiling, and a familiar aroma he could recognize.

Then another memory came abruptly. The father beat his mother, she was left on the floor, and he was leaving, never to return. Another memory took Tim by surprise and he was in a basket, watching his mother running through the dark streets, leaving the basket in a doorway. She would bring her face close to Tim for a last kiss, and he would finally look at his mother's features, it was, it was...

Waking suddenly, his nerves on edge and his heart beating a thousand a second, he went to the kitchen and called out his maid's name. "Hortencia, are you my mother?"

The woman let out tears like waterfalls and nodded her head. "Sorry, son, I did all this for your welfare, we lived in extreme poverty, your father was an alcoholic, he gave us a bad life and abandoned us, I had nothing to feed you with, only coffee that gave us encouragement and hopes that everything was going to get better, Finally, I decided to leave you in that orphanage, but I could not leave you completely, and after a while, I found out who had adopted you, I started working as a servant and here I am, always taking care of you from the shadows and with this secret on my shoulders, I only ask for forgiveness once again." Hortencia bowed her head, while tears fell on the marble counter.

Tim stood up, between the memories and the confession of his mother, he only knew how to forgive her because despite everything she was always by his side. Tim embraced Hortencia, and they merged in a reunion of mother and son, in the delicious aroma of caffeine memories.

This was a touching story, well the mom did all of that just to make him survive, I am glad Tim forgave his mom and they finally reunited.

Beautiful read. So emotional. It shows motherly love and dedication.

The coffee was very helpful, it made him realize that the woman who had been taking care of him was his mother.

Nice ending. Love reigns.
