#STB Coffee Prompt Week 74

Today I come to participate in the new biweekly call made by our dear coffee goddesses. To answer the question about the place where we prefer to have our first coffee of the day.

To answer this question I will go back to a few years ago, exactly in the time of my childhood, when we lived with our grandparents. I remember that the house was big and had several rooms. In that house also lived my maternal uncle with his wife and three cousins. As you may have noticed, our family was very large.

At my grandmother's house what I remember most were Sundays, on those days we all rested from the daily routine, my parents from work, and the children from school. We always slept late, without any eagerness to get up, until about nine o'clock in the morning, more or less.

From my room, where I slept next to my sister, we could hear the water merging with the coffee and falling in a continuous stream to the big pot that supplied the whole family with the delicious coffee, then the smell flooded the house, entering each nostril and enrapturing the mind of each member of the family.

As if we had been enchanted by the delicious aroma, our bodies responded to the action of going to the kitchen to ask for a delicious drink of coffee freshly prepared by the hands of our beloved grandmother.

I remember that Sunday moment, when we were all in the kitchen drinking the first coffee of the day, it was a moment not only to satiate our basic need to feed ourselves, but also to share as a family, amidst laughter, gossip, and the occasional opinion on politics, work or sports.

For me, those moments of morning meetings were very happy and revolved around a cup of delicious coffee. The smiling grandmother would pass us each the dark ration, and we would eagerly take a bite to our mouths thirsty for the delicious flavor that invaded our taste buds and then give way to joy and energy.

After the first cup of coffee in the morning, we would go out with our cousins to the backyard to play and enjoy the rest of the day with laughter. Those moments of the past come to my mind when I get up and take the path to the kitchen to prepare the coffee, I remember those moments that make me nostalgic and happy.

After putting them in context, now you know that my favorite time to have the first cup of the day is in the kitchen, and you know what moves me to do this ritual every morning. This is a legacy left to us by our beloved grandmother, and I continue to do it just as I did in those magical moments on Sundays.

Every morning when I wake up, I go to the kitchen and prepare a delicious black coffee as grandma used to do and start a new day with lots of energy and enthusiasm to face each new challenge that appears in the path of life. Always moving forward taking with us the special moments and the people that are no longer with us, but have become part of us.

Cheers to all coffee lovers, and I hope this post has also brought back pleasant memories as it did for me.

A coffee surrounded by family in the kitchen seems almost as energizing as the coffee itself! I love how you weave nostalgia into your daily routine! I enjoyed reading this lovely write-up 🤗

Undoubtedly, the fragrance of freshly brewed coffee invites me to get out of bed. And in your case, with so many pleasant memories, it seems that you have created a good anchor in your mind between coffee and special moments.

Having the opportunity as adults to repeat those rituals that take us back to happy moments in our infancy is priceless. I also like to have my first coffee of the day in the kitchen, but in solitude, before my husband wakes up. It's a moment for me, and I make the most of it: I stay quiet and breathe, or think about the day ahead of me, but I also think about everything in general, family, friends, anything relevant going on in the world. Coffee time was more an intimate moment when I was a child; my mother would brew some for her and offer me a little.

Nice post, friend!
