Wonder In Nature

The first day I saw this beauty
I never knew things could go south
So well created with the elegant beauty
An uncommon beak with a soft padding
At first I saw this as just nature being creative
But later I saw a pelican caressing a duck
And again I thought it was cute
Until I saw the duck fighting for its life
In seconds, this long-beaked beauty turned deadly
It swallowed the duck alive!
Later I learnt it’s their way of life
As I later confirmed in a documentary
Nature is full of surprises
Not all that appears calm and beautiful ends up being what it seems

I see a pelican beautiful in appearance but not so good to watch when it’s feeding on its prey.

It's the food chain behind it all. Beautiful poem.

You know I saw that once in a documentary I watched some time ago. The pelican swallowing its meal of fish and how that long beak expands into a pouch for the prey, was really so amazing. Nature is a wonder to behold!

@edith-4angelseu exactly, the muscles expand while the prey struggles for its life till it's suppressed due to lack of oxygen and finally swallowed. I'm glad you can relate. Thank you for your contribution. 🤗

What a thought-provoking prose of beauty and the beast. Such is the nature of things in the animal kingdom in the hierarchy of the food chain. You capture the contrast of the beauty of the first take with the wonder of it, then the horror of the second glance as reality sets in bringing with it a knowledge of survival.

Thanks for sharing. Take care.
