Beer Tasting: Erlkönig Festbier and Teisnacher 1543
Hello everyone! 🍻
How are you beer lovers and everyone else? Do you get upset by the news of conflicts and wars that the mainstream media feeds us on a daily basis?
Or what's happening in the crypto world? The latest buzzword or hype, as I read it, I don't even know what to call it, is #SocialFi and Hive is supposedly on top of this trend. Whether or not this will be the next bull run remains to be seen.
Anyway, #beersaturday, 327 in a row is here, and with beer, it's much easier to think about these things...
I don't know whether the Oktoberfest is over or not, but I have two chilled German bottles in front of me, a Märzen or Oktoberfest style, and it'll be interesting to compare them.
Erlkönig Festbier
Brewed by Erl-Bräu, Geiselhoering, Bavaria, Germany.
Bottle, 0.5 l, alcohol 6.1% ABV, IBU N/A.
It's Märzen or Oktoberfest style, which means fresh German lager with rich malty taste, restrained bitterness, and a dry finish.
What do the Master Brewers say?
Brewed according to an old family recipe, our festive beer is for special occasions. Balanced, mild, and very drinkable.
As a rare specialty, the festival beer for the Gäubodenvolksfest in Straubing is still brewed traditionally by hand in open fermentation vats. This is no longer the case at the Munich Wiesn.
Craft-brewed with 100% Hallertau natural hops and fresh in taste, it is neither short-time heated nor pasteurized.
Awarded the European Beer Star 2016 in gold as best festival beer.
It looks like it's going to be a real Oktoberfest beer.
The beer is clear golden yellow in color, the head is creamy and it settles quickly. It smells of bread. The sip goes down the throat smoothly, the sweetness of the malt prevails in the mouth but the bitterness of the hops is also present. It tastes of cereal and bread, slightly of lemon.
A dry hop bitterness remains in the aftertaste.
Fresh, tasty, and very drinkable beer. The malt and hops work very harmoniously, nothing is missing, and nothing is too much. I could easily drink it all evening. It is clear to me why they won the gold award for it back in 2016.
Unfortunately for me, I'm not at the Oktoberfest, it won't end up in my fridge because it's not available here, except in the Kalea Ber Box, which is occasionally sold in Hofer stores and is always different.
Well, I can console myself with the fact that I have at least tried it, that's something too :)
Lest you think I'm only into beer and spirits - today I started cleaning my field, the spring and summer vegetables are gone, and I cleaned up the leftover sweetcorn.
Finally, I loosened the soil with a motor cultivator, because my wife and I decided that next week we would plant garlic here, we hadn't had any of our own so far, we had been buying Chinese or Spanish garlic in the local shops, which we didn't like very much.
Let's move on to #beertasting
Teisnacher 1543 Festmärzen
Brewed by Ettl Bräu, Teisnach, Bavaria, Germany.
Bottle, 0.5 l, alcohol 5.4 ABV, IBU 20.
It's Märzen or Oktoberfest style, as previously.
What do the Master Brewers say?
The Teisnacher Festmärz was brewed to celebrate the 475th anniversary of the brewery. The naturally cloudy Festmärz has a slightly cloudy amber color with a medium-sized, slightly beige foam. The aroma is dominated by caramel and malt, the taste also features caramel, malt and a subtle bitterness, but nuts and hay are also present. The finish is slightly dry and spicy - a tasty beer that did justice to the 475th anniversary!
At first, I thought it was an ancient recipe from medieval times, but apparently not.
The beer is cloudy light brown in colour, and the head is creamy but disappears quickly. It smells malty. The sip flows smoothly down the throat, the sweetness of the malt comes first on the palate, but also the bitterness of the hops, otherwise less so. The flavor is dominated by caramel, honey, and some herbs. Slightly bitter.
In the aftertaste, everything disappears and the sweetness and caramel remain for some time.
A refreshing and drinkable beer. The flavor is dominated by caramel and a discreet bitterness. More pronounced flavors and aromas than the previous beer and is certainly less balanced.
Good, but not available here, except in Kalea Beer-Box.
Both beers are very good. It's like I'm really at Oktoberfest, well, at least for a moment.
But if I had to decide, Erlkönig is my favorite. Although with more alcohol, it somehow seems more drinkable to me.
But that's just my opinion.
And what am I listening to as I write this and try a beer? Something from my latest #newtunes post. Tuareg Sahara Blues.

We are trying to get as much garlic in the ground as we can. So that we will have some left over for the next tour. When you try to buy garlic from a local farmer, it can feel like you're weighing it against gold.
Or pester the farmer next door until he gives you some of his crop.🥺
We planted some small garlic last year and it was good. More this year, I hope.
I am very angry about the news of war flying up and down. It is very sad. Well, having a Beer to calm the mind won't be a bad idea...hahaha
Yes, that's very sad what happening. But with !BEER and distance is easier :)
