Beer Tasting Hemp Brou, Craft King, and Hofbräu Original
Hello, beer lovers! 🍻
Summer. Heat. Beach. Beer. Island.
Those are the keywords I could use to describe my current mood. 😎And #beersaturday, 369th in a row.
I have three beers in front of me: one Czech, one Croatian, and one German. They have cooled down in the fridge, but it's impossible to cool them in the sea because it's 28 degrees Celsius.
Let's go. I'm thirsty, so I'd like the one first with less alcohol.
Nova Paka Hemp Brou Czech
Brewed by Pivovar Nová Paka, Hradec Králové Region, Czech Republic.
Bottle, 0.33 l, alcohol 4.5% ABV, IBU N/A.
It's Czech Pilsner or Bohemian Pilsener style beer, considerable malty and with strong hops bitternes, this one spiced with taste and smell of cannabis.
What do the Master Brewers say?
Pivovar Nová Paka a.s. has created a completely unique recipe. The result is a brand new hemp beer Hemp BrouCzech. The beer has a distinctive taste and aroma of hemp, which is pleasantly combined with the classic bitterness, so typical for Nová Paka beers. The high quality hemp extract comes from the mountain regions of Switzerland, but Hemp BrouCzech is also infused with an ingredient that is sure to get you going.
🍺
I've tasted a few beers with cannabis, but I didn't like any of them.
I got this from a friend who was in the Czech Republic, and it's fair to taste it.
The beer is light brown and has an average head. There is no noticeable smell, and it goes down smoothly. I can taste the bitterness of the hops, but I don't detect the sweetness of the malt or the cannabis.
Only in the aftertaste does the subtle taste of cannabis come through, and the hop bitterness lingers for a while.
It's another hemp beer that disappointed me. Sure, it's drinkable, it's a solid Pilsner, but this hemp is more of a buzzword than not.
Hofbräu Original
Brewed by Staatliches Hofbräuhaus, München, Bavaria, Germany.
Bottle, 0.33 l, alcohol 5.1 % ABV, IBU 24.
It's Helles or Dortmunder Export style beer, balanced grainy malt with floral or herbal hops. Less sweet than bitter.
What do the Master Brewers say?
Hofbräuhaus is a symbol of Munich’s hospitality and the Bavarian gift for creating a snug and cosy atmosphere. Beer-lovers from all over the world come here to enjoy its famous beers.
More than any other, Hofbräu Original embodies the special atmosphere of the beer-making capital of Munich, and exports it to the four corners of the globe. Its refreshing, bitter flavour and alcoholic content of around 5.1% volume have made it famous worldwide. A Munich beer with character.
🍺
Well, let's taste Munich's character.
The beer is light, pure golden in color, and has no smell. The sip goes smoothly down the throat. First, I hear the slight sweetness of the malt, which intertwines with the bitterness of the hops. It is cooked with a discreet taste of fresh bread and caramel.
The bitterness of hops remains in the aftertaste; everything else disappears.
The beer is drinkable and fresh, but it's no surprise that it's a mediocre Helles lager that will not be remembered for long. I've had better ones. I got it from a friend; it's not even available here.
Let's move on. Another beer is waiting!
Craft King Pale Ale
Brewed by Zmajska Pivovara, Zagreb, Cratia.
Can, 0.5 l, alcohol 5.3% ABV, IBU 38.
It's APA, American Pale Ale (APA) style beer, brewed with new World hops, with a wide range of fruity or herbal tastes. less in alcohol than classic IPAs.
What do the Master Brewers say?
Although it bears the name pale, we know for sure that the unique taste of this beer does not fade easily. By combining four varieties of hops from the New World, we got the refreshing aromas of mango and citrus characteristic of this beer with a full body and pleasant bitterness. Realistically, it's painfully drinkable!
🍺
The beer is light brown, with an average head that disappears quickly. The first sip goes down the throat smoothly. On the palate, I taste rich hop bitterness, slight sweetness, caramel, mango, grapefruit, pine, and herbs (lemon balm?).
In the aftertaste, everything slowly disappears except the hop bitterness, which lingers for a while.
Fresh and very drinkable beer!
Absolute favourite of the last six months. A perfect Pale Ale classic! Far surpasses all the brews I've tried lately. Of course, this is my subjective assessment. Here and where I am now, in Croatia, it is available in all major stores, the price is a bargain €2.19 and the fridge is filled with these beers by the end of the week when we are at the seaside.
If anyone happens to be wandering around Croatia, try to find this beer. You won't regret it. A superb Pale Ale!
In Slovenia you can find it in Eurospin stores.
And what am I listening to as I write this and taste beers? I didn't post #newtunes yesterday, I can't do it, I'm on holiday :)
But, of course, there is no shortage of music. Some summer, one downtempo mix.

The first beer will surely be nice but I don’t like those that always have an aftertaste especially a bitter one, lol
The first one is really awful, but the last one is excellent!
Mmm I have tasted a cannabis beer in Bolivia, but this is crossing borders 😂

As mentioned, cannabis beer, at least here, is just a fashion buzzword, nothing special. !BEER
Yeah, I didn't feel nothing special when I tried it 😂 I prefer a good Wheat beer instead! Prost!
