Beer Tasting Kaltenecker Fiesta and Spaten Münchner Hell
Hello, beer lovers! 🍻
I just got back from Pag Island, and I'm late. I haven't encountered this much traffic in a long time. The journey took me five hours when it usually takes only two and a half hours. The Adriatic motorway was a long line of cars moving at an average speed of 50 km per hour.
But we're finally home, and after a long drive, what else is there to do but have a beer?
For the 366th #beersaturday, I grabbed two bottles that had been chilling in my fridge at home for two weeks—one Slovak and one German. It's a bit late, but they will come in handy after a long and tiring hot day in the car.
First, the one with less alcohol.
Kaltenecker Fiesta Summer Ale 12°
Brewed by Pivovar Kaltenecker, Rožňava, Slovakia.
Bottle, 0.33 l, alcohol 5.0% ABV, IBU 45.
It's an APA, American Pale Ale style beer, also known as West Coast Pale Ale. It's fairly hoppy and malt-balanced but less bitter than an American IPA.
What do the Master Brewers say?
A top-fermented golden yellow beer with a citrusy, slightly malty aroma. It has a light body thanks to the special Pale Ale malt and a refreshing taste thanks to American hops that evoke the flavors of lemon, tangerine, and tropical fruits.
🍺
I tasted an IPA from this brewery, and it was perfect.
The beer is orange in color, with minimal head, and it has a hoppy aroma. It goes down smoothly, with pronounced bitterness and herbal aromas, followed by malty sweetness and subtle citrus flavors.
The bitterness lingers in the aftertaste for some time.
I thought the beer was drinkable with a noticeable hop character, but it wasn't charming for an APA, and the malt sweetness was overshadowed. It was okay, but I preferred their IPA, which had more flavor and juiciness.
I'd recommend this beer to anyone who enjoys bitter beers.
I took this photo on the ferry while returning to Pag last week.
The first person to correctly guess the location of my car (actually my wife's) will receive 100 Ecency points :)
And that is what today was like: five hours of driving in a motorcade. It was very humid and hot outside, at 32 degrees Celsius, but air-conditioned in the car, at 23-24 degrees Celsius.
Let's move on. There's another bottle waiting!
Spaten Münchner Hell
Brewed by Spaten-Franziskaner-Bräu, München, Bavaria, Germany.
Bottle, 0.33 l, alcohol 5.2 % ABV, IBU 21.
It's a Helles-style beer, German Pale Lager, more malty than hoppy and subtle floral.
What do the Master Brewers say?
This beer is our specialty. In 1894, Spaten became the first brewery in Munich to produce this brand of light lager. Golden in color with a well-balanced hop-flavor. The full-rounded body is a superb balance between hops and malty sweetness. Sold as Münchner Hell in Germany, München in the UK, and Premium in North America.
🍺
I've never tried a beer from this brewery before.
The beer is a clear dark yellow or golden color. The head is average and disappears quickly. It goes down the throat smoothly, and I first taste the sweetness of malt, pine, bread, and hay with no bitterness in the mouth.
A discreet bitterness appears in the aftertaste but quickly disappears.
The beer is still quite drinkable and refreshing. Sweetness dominates, while bitterness is shyly hidden, but I wouldn't say it's balanced.
Yes, the fact is that neither of these two beers is available locally and will no longer be in my fridge :)
But both beers are extremes. One is too bitter for me, and the other is too sweet. It's OK to try both, but that's all. They won't stay in my memory except as a post here.
As I write this and savor the beer, I take a brief break from #newtunes. For the past two weeks, I've been exclusively listening to older music, all the way home today and now to one of my most beloved bands.

The journey sounds rough, but finding those unique beers must have made it worthwhile.
I've had these two beers in the fridge for two weeks. They are indeed unique products of the local environment, but they are not exceptional. I've had better :)
I'm seeing experience talk hahahah wow you know your stuff well dear
Cheers!
You mentioned earlier that you drive a station wagon. since I believe you were in no rush to get on board, I'd say it's not this white Skoda, but rather a white Ford, surrounded by red, dark and orange cars?
You are partly right. The car is indeed a Ford C-Max, but it is not surrounded by cars. It's the last car and standing across. That's why I mentioned it. I thought I couldn't get on that ferry, but I'd have to wait another half an hour. But they took me.
Here, you got 100 Ecency points, @duskobgd.
Wow, barely got in 🙂
Even though you sailed across parked, at least you were the first to exit.
Thanks for the points 🙂
The weather over there looks hot and it’s going to be reasonable to have a cold beer in that hot weather
Happy Sunday!
