Beer Tasting: Perlenzauber Gypsy Brewing and Lepi Dečki Kaj-EL

Hello, beer lovers! 🍻

Are you already on beer, or are you still on soft drinks due to excessive New Year's Eve binge drinking?
I've had a few beers. #beersaturday is here, 393 in a row, and Hive is finally up, so I can justify this binge :)

Two beers, one German and one Croatian, are waiting for me today, and I will be happy to share this beer experience with you.

🍻 😎 🍻

Perlenzauber Gypsy Brewing

Brewed by Privatbrauerei Gaffel Becker, Köln, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.
Bottle, 0.33 l, alcohol 5.0% ABV, IBU 44.
It's a balanced Kölsch-Style beer with a subtle fruit and hop character.

What do the Master Brewers say?

Not much, just that was brewed especially for KALEA Beer Advent Calendar.

🍺

I got this beer from a friend who ordered Kalea Beer Calendar 2025.

The beer is cloudy and golden in color. The head is average and disappears quickly. It smells faintly of fruit; I cannot pinpoint which. A sip goes down the throat smoothly, and I taste a pleasant sweetness and bitterness in the mouth simultaneously, with hints of biscuit and orange. It's a little spicy.
There is a slight bitterness in the aftertaste, but it all disappears.

A drinkable and refreshing beer. Sweet and bitter simultaneously, but all within the limits of acceptability. Nothing extreme, nothing special, except this extraordinary balance.
Not available here.

🍻 😎 🍻

Today, we had a family lunch. My elder son turned 21, and, mum being mum, she went out of her way to make him (for the first time) a fruity Tiramisu because he prefers fruit to chocolate.

It was a great dessert, even better than the classic Tiramisu.

🍻 😎 🍻

Let's move on with the new beer.

Lepi Dečki Kaj- El New Edition

Brewed by Lepi Dečki Brewery, Čakovec, Croatia.
Can, 0.5 l, alcohol 5.1% ABV, IBU 32.
It's APA, American Pale Ale beer. An average strength, hop-forward ale but with more malt, generally balanced.

What do the Master Brewers say?

An American classic, our first ale, on the scene since 2016. A balanced sweet-bitter copper ale, with mild citrus-hop notes. An ideal start to enter the world of craft beer. New Edition - modified water profile, small tweaks.
Hops: amarillo, cascade, challenger
Malts: pale ale, munich, caramunich, carahell.

🍺

I bought beer in Lidl in Croatia.

The beer is light amber, with an average head. It smells of hops with a hint of citrus. It goes down the throat smoothly, and I first taste a caramel sweetness in the mouth, which is immediately covered by the bitterness of the hops with a citrus and pine aroma.
The bitterness lingers in the aftertaste, but everything else disappears.

It is a drinkable and refreshing beer, delicious. My only comment is that I don't find it very balanced. Except for the first moment, the hop bitterness dominates the whole time. But it's an APA.
It's not available here, but in Croatia, it's available in every Lidl, so it's very likely to end up in my fridge on the island in the summer.

🍻 😎 🍻

And what am I listening to when tasting beers and writing this? Something from my Fridays #newtunes. One Brazilian who is not so well known but is excellent, and his time is coming. Brazilian rhythms in psychedelic passages.

Caxtrinho - Queda Livre

Thank you for your attention.

#beersaturday 2025: Alpirsbacher Klosterbräu Pils and Günzburger Rad-Weizen

🍻 😎 🍻

And finally, the answer to a question I had in the previous #beersaturday:
In the opening picture of the article, the device is shown in the background behind the beer.
What is it? The first person to guess gets 350 Ecency points for 3 days of promotion or to give to anyone.
Answer: That's the VW Beetle engine from 1972.

Unfortunately, there was no exact answer; there was only an approximate answer: that it was the engine.
@graciliano and @leaky mentioned this, so I sent them each 150 Ecency Points to promote their posts for one day or to give away points.

🍻 😎 🍻

Some tasty looking beers, a very tasty looking fruity Tiramisu too, I'd say that was delicious. Happy 21st to your son, christ it doesn't seem that long since my own 21st

My eldest son is closer to 21 now than I am past 30! A scary thought! Life just keeps on flying eh..
