Kellerbier, Rieder IPA, and Steamworks Hoppy Lager
Hello, beer lovers! 🍻
How are you!
I'm really happy today. I got a present for St. Nicholas: a Kalea BeerBox with 12 different beers!
Three are already in my fridge, two German and one Austrian, and I'm looking forward to tasting them!
Ettl Bräu Kellerbier
Brewed by Ettl Bräu, Teisnach, Bavaria, Germany.
Bottle, 0.33 l, alcohol 5.4% ABV, IBU N/A.
It's a Kellerbier or Zwickelbier style, which means a young, unfiltered, unpasteurized version of a traditional German beer like Märzen or Helles.
What do the Master Brewers say?
Cloudy, golden-colored beer with a mild, dry-bitter taste and some fruity and herbal nuances.
🍺
Ok, let's taste this young beer.
The beer is cloudy and golden in color. The head is low and disappears quickly. It has a malty smell. A sip goes down the throat smoothly. I taste the sweetness of the malt, and the caramel lingers in my mouth. The hop bitterness is just a nuance.
In the aftertaste, the sweetness disappears, and a discreet bitterness remains for a while.
The beer is very drinkable. There is enough balance between sweetness and bitterness, and the caramel is not too intrusive. It is still quite okay for a young beer. It might even be in my fridge if it was available in local shops.
Let's move forward!
Steamworks Hoppy Lager V2
Brewed by Steamworks Brewing Europe, Berlin, Germany. That's a subsidiary of Steamworks Brewing Company from Canada.
Bottle, 0.33 l, alcohol 5.8%, IBU 20.
It's Hoppy Lager style, brewed as a lager but with American hops.
What do the Master Brewers say?
Citrus yellow, white foam, delicately cloudy. Fruity and fresh on the nose with hints of grapefruit and orange zest. Crisp attack, full-bodied. The hop bitterness explodes and releases fruity notes again. The grapefruit is joined by mango, which lingers for a long time.
🍺
My local Lidl regularly has several beers from this brewery, and I like the Session IPA the best. I haven't seen this one yet.
The beer is cloudy yellow, with an average head that disappears quickly. It has no smell, well, maybe a very mild citrus smell. A sip goes down the throat smoothly, and on the palate, I taste the bitterness of hops, but not too pronounced, and notes of citrus, mainly grapefruit, followed by lime.
In the aftertaste, a solid hop bitterness lingers for quite some time.
A drinkable and refreshing beer. More for the summer heat. It's better than all the Steamworks beers at the local Lidl.
However, since it's from Kalea BeerBox, it won't be in my fridge anymore.
Too bad :(
Ufff, it's not over yet, I've got one more beer to go :)
Rieder India Pale Ale
Brewed by Brauerei Ried, Ried, Austria.
Bottle, 0.33 l, alcohol 6.0%, IBU 58.
It's IPA style, hoppy and bitter beer with fruit notes, mostly brewed by American hops.
What do the Master Brewers say?
Our Rieder IPA is a naturally cloudy, amber-colored specialty beer with a pleasant tanginess. Floral and fruity notes of passion fruit, citrus, peach and pineapple are clearly perceptible until it ends harmoniously with a strong bitterness.
🍺
So, an Austrian IPA clone with many fruity flavors is very nice.
The beer is cloudy and amber in color, with a solid head. It smells of tropical fruits and goes down the throat smoothly. The palate develops a pronounced bitterness as befits an IPA, and in the background, I taste citrus, grapefruit, and some herbs, maybe pine.
In the aftertaste, it all disappears, but the bitterness remains for a while.
A drinkable and tasty beer, a standard IPA with a lot of bitterness and tropical fruit aromas, present to a lesser extent. It's a perfect IPA, of course, with a central European twist :)
And what am I listening to when I'm tasting beers and writing this? Something from my yesterday's #newtunes post. Very sharp rock.

.I love reading reviews from local IPAs around the world. Citra hops seem to make most IPAs good though I prefer cascade and centennial in lighter beers. I really need #hive to get to $10 so that I can book some travel to those parts for a brewery tour!
I don't know these hops, but lately, I see everyone trying to make an IPA beer in their range, and then they combine hops. But I find these European hops somehow smell more like herbs, and American hops smell more like tropical fruits.
I don't think there's anyone who doesn't want Hive at $10 or even more 😜
Quality present man!! Somebody knows you very very well 👍
Hehe, yes. I got it from my wife, although she often disagrees with my #beertasting.

They were all very good. Well, maybe I would highlight Steamworks Hoppy Lager.
