Battle Mage Secrets: But I Don't Like It From Behind
Introduction
I missed last week's battle mage secrets challenge but didn't plan on missing this week. The theme featured this week is Super Sneak. In this ruleset, all melee units gain sneak which means they will all attack the farthest back unit. Sometimes I wondered if the team would ever consider changing this ruleset to give all types of units sneak because we do have magic and ranged units that have sneak.
By the way don't take the title too serious it's just for fun and the background image is of a pig's butt hence "behind".
My Strategy & Tips For Super Sneak
My go to strategy for this ruleset is life or dragon and life element. Jared scar is pretty beast in any ruleset that let's him attack from the backline position. My idea for this strategy is to play some sort of tank upfront that counters magic and ranged while having a shield and forcefield units in the backline. You will see a great example of a strong lineup that I like to use for this ruleset.
All the other elements are usable as well. Arkemis the bear is super solid though so this card would be ideal for any lineup for this ruleset. You would also follow a similar strategy of having something to counter range and magic upfront and probably some shield in backline like Antooid Platoon, Harklaw, Mycelic Infantry etc.
In terms of Summoners, I find the ones that have some sort of speed manipulation the best and secondary would be any type of melee damage manipulation. Some potentially good summoners for this ruleset are Kelya, Quix, Tarsa, Jacek, Ilthain, Kitty and so on.
The Battle
I played this battle on my own account, shawnnft. The battle link can be found here. This battle was in a brawl actually. It was a diamond wild fray and I was playing a pretty strong opponent who was in champion. The rulesets for this battle was Super Sneak and Counterspell. This battle had a 51 mana cap and everything was available to play except death.
Discussing My Lineup
Summoner, Quix The Devious - As mentioned before, I like to choose life and dragon+life as it gives access to Jared Scar so this is why I chose Quix as well as giving the speed debuff.
First Position, Pelacor Conjurer - This is in the first position to focus on reflecting magic and dodge ranged attacks with the high speed and flying since we know melee units will be hitting in the backline due to super sneak.
Second Position, Carnage Titan - Carnage Titan was like a backup tank for cases where the opponent had high speed ranged units that are able to take conjurer out then the shield from carnage titan could stall match for my Jared Scar.
Third Position, Djinn Chwala - Djinn Chwala was mainly to help Jared Scar attack the backline. This was good because it can't miss so it's basically guaranteed to help hit any unit in the back. You can see it has higher speed than Jared Scar so it will help possibly give Jared the finishing blow.
Fourth Position, Jared Scar - This is the key unit of this lineup. His main purpose is to stack that bloodlust by killing the backline.
Fifth Position, Arkemis The Bear - Arkemis the Bear gives good utility by giving the whole team armor. Not only that but it does help counter Jared Scar with the forcefield which is why I placed it in the back incase the opponent also chose to play a Jared Scar team.
Sixth Position, Chaos Knight - Chaos Knight was mainly to stall since it cuts melee damage in half it's a good choice for the backline which I recommended in my tips before. It's also good because it has inspire which helps give the whole team an additional melee damage.
Analysis of The Battle
This battle was completely in my favor. The opponent played a questionable lineup. I feel like maybe he thought he could spam yodin and beat me but it's not that simple. He played two magic units that had speed manipulation but I don't think it's worth taking since there was counterspell to reflect the damage so basically he ended up killing himself over time. With the double true aim from my two units it made it so I could hit his Coerul Lurker which was a good play by me with the double true aim. I think he was thinking of being able to stall long enough with that tank but it failed and after that tank went down, his team got completely smoked.
Do I Like Super Sneak Ruleset?
I love this ruleset. I love spamming Jared Scar and seeing his stats go up through bloodlust. I'm curious to how the new ability lookout from rebellion will change the meta with this ruleset. Lookout might be the counter to the Jared Scar play. If lookout stacks with shield, I think we could see a big counter to sneak now but let's see how it goes.
