Convirtiendo la lectura en algo especial para mis hijos / Turning reading into something special for my children

Saludos estimados padres y madres de esta hermosa comunidad de Motherhood, esperando se encuentren muy bien y disfrutando de sus hijos que son una bendición de Dios.

Cuando me entere de la iniciativa acerca de cómo enseñamos a nuestros hijos en este aprendizaje tan fundamental para nuestra vida como lo es la lectura, me anime muchísimo porque me encuentro en ese proceso con mis hijos.

Es importante que entendamos que como padres tenemos la responsabilidad de enseñar a nuestros hijos esta habilidad que en el cerebro de los niños no está programada para desarrollarla por su cuenta como lo es en el caso del habla, pero tiene igual de importancia porque el leer nos permite comprender y conocer muchas cosas además de tener un mejor lenguaje.

Aquí les comparto como he enseñado a mi hija Abi que actualmente tiene 8 años y a mi pequeño Eliab que tan solo cuenta con 5 añitos a pesar de que cada uno tiene su individualidad en el ritmo del aprendizaje.

When I heard about the initiative about how we teach our children to learn how to read, I was very encouraged because I am in that process with my children.

It is important that we understand that as parents we have the responsibility to teach our children this skill that in the brain of children is not programmed to develop it on its own as it is in the case of speech, but it is equally important because reading allows us to understand and know many things in addition to having a better language.

Here I share with you how I have taught my daughter Abi who is currently 8 years old and my little Eliab who is only 5 years old, although each one has his individuality in the pace of learning.

Pasos en el aprendizaje de la lectura

El primer paso es que el niño identifique, pronuncie y reconozca las vocales, para ello siempre hice uso de las imágenes, siempre asociándolas con alguna imagen y algún sonido.

El segundo paso es similar al primero, la meta es que el niño identifique, pronuncie y reconozca el abecedario. Para llegar a este objetivo hice uso de la cartilla con imágenes, pero también me ayudó mucho el material audiovisual, con canciones y figuras donde mis hijos lo veían en la pantalla, cantaban y memorizaban, siempre estaba con ellos en este proceso.

Luego que mis hijos aprendieron las vocales y el abecedario, los lleve a unir las letras y las vocales para formar los sonidos o silabas, de allí a formar palabras y luego oraciones, de esa forma fueron avanzando con constancia.

Steps in learning to read

The first step is that the child identifies, pronounces and recognizes the vowels, for this I always made use of images, always associating them with an image and a sound.

The second step is similar to the first, the goal is that the child identifies, pronounces and recognizes the alphabet. To reach this goal I made use of the primer with images, but also the audiovisual material helped me a lot, with songs and figures where my children saw it on the screen, sang and memorized, I was always with them in this process.

After my children learned the vowels and the alphabet, I took them to join the letters and vowels to form the sounds or syllables, from there to form words and then sentences, in this way they were advancing steadily.

Con mi hijo de 5 años procuro leerle historias ilustradas para incentivarlo en la lectura.

Les realizo juegos como la pesca que mostré en otro post, ahorita lo estoy haciendo con las silabas y formando palabras. Otro juego que estoy implementando con él ya que mi niño le encanta correr, es hacer running para que vaya rápidamente por las palabras y toque la que le estoy indicando, juego de memoria para que voltee las tarjetas de los diferentes sonidos y forme la palabra que le indico.

Otra cosa que suelo hacer con él es cuando salimos de compras, paseos recreativos, ida al médico o a la iglesia, lo llevo a visualizar las palabras en los anuncios o establecimientos que tenemos alrededor ya que el mundo está lleno de letras y así le muestro lo importante que es saber leer.

Para los niños pequeños que es un trabajo difícil lograr sentarlos y que se mantengan sentados hay que buscar enseñarles con el juego y de manera divertida para que no asocien la lectura con algo no agradable, sino que al contrario amen la lectura jugando que es lo que les gusta hacer.

With my 5 year old son I try to read illustrated stories to encourage him to read.

I play games like the fishing game I showed in another post, now I am playing with syllables and forming words. Another game that I am implementing with him since he loves to run, is running so that he quickly goes through the words and touches the one I am indicating, memory game so that he flips the cards of the different sounds and forms the word that I indicate to him.

Another thing I usually do with him is when we go shopping, on recreational outings, to the doctor or to church, I take him to visualize the words in the advertisements or establishments we have around us since the world is full of letters and this way I show him how important it is to know how to read.

For young children it is a difficult job to get them to sit down and stay seated, we must try to teach them through play and in a fun way so that they do not associate reading with something unpleasant, but on the contrary, they love reading while playing, which is what they like to do.

Hay que aprovechar también la tecnología dándole un buen uso, recuerdo que cuando mi hija de 8 años comenzó a identificar sus primeras palabras por ella misma lo hizo en su 3ds, un día me dijo mama aquí dice esto.. Uniendo los sonidos y fue un motivo de tanta alegría para mí porque la enseñanza estaba dando sus primeros frutos.

Les cuento ahora mi experiencia con mi pequeña Abigail que ya sabe leer, la anime a tener un hábito diario de lectura, la rodeamos de libros y revistas donde ella podía tener a la mano para leer lo que quisiera. Eso hizo que a veces se levantara a leer y también hay otras ocasiones donde no para de hacerlo, sobre todo si son lecturas que le gustan, se le pasa el tiempo y lo disfruta.

Con ella uso pasatiempos como sopa de letras, procuro que lea en voz alta para evaluarla y seguirla enseñando, hacemos lecturas alternas donde ella lee un párrafo y yo leo otro. También procuro leerle en voz alta para enseñarla acerca de las pronunciaciones difíciles y las pausas que debe llevar en la lectura para su correcta comprensión, luego le realizo preguntas para saber si capto su atención y conocer si comprendió.

En definitiva lo más importante es modelarles a nuestros hijos este fundamental hábito, que ellos vean como procuramos leer y lo puedan ver como algo importante. Así que como padres tenemos la responsabilidad de convertir la lectura en algo especial para nuestros hijos.

Joining the sounds and it was a reason of so much joy for me because the teaching was giving its first fruits.

I encourage her to have a daily reading habit, we surrounded her with books and magazines where she could have at hand to read whatever she wanted. That made her get up to read sometimes and there are other times when she doesn't stop reading, especially if it's something she likes, she spends the time and enjoys it.

With her I use hobbies like alphabet soup, I try to make her read aloud to evaluate her and continue teaching her, we do alternate readings where she reads a paragraph and I read another one. I also try to read aloud to teach her about difficult pronunciations and the pauses she should take when reading for correct comprehension, then I ask her questions to see if I have captured her attention and if she understood.

In short, the most important thing is to model this fundamental habit to our children, so that they can see how we try to read and see it as something important. So as parents we have the responsibility to make reading something special for our children.
