Splinterlands Art Contest

Hello guys, I hope everyone is having a great weekend. I'm also having a great time as well. For this week I decided to draw the Queen of Crows. I think the last time I drew a witch was one of my original characters for this contest. This time I decided to paint an official one and choose this card. I hope you guys enjoy the painting below :)

I had this witch pose saved from Pinterest a while back. This felt like the correct time to use it. I managed to get the anatomy to look very similar to the reference there. Once I was done with that I had to correct some mistakes on the rough sketch. I knew from first glance that head and left palm was quite bigger so I lassoed and reduced the size before making clean lineart!

Once I was done with that I started painting the first basic layer. After that I started shading each of the body parts and accessories one by one. Initially the purple hair have me some problem but the tone curve tool is really useful when it comes to like, toning the colours haha. It makes a big difference if you know how to use it properly.

I like to add some textures here and there on my paintings. I used 5 line brush and half tone for this purpose. You can see them on skin and hair and even on some other areas as well. As you can see the main light source is coming from the right side but I also added a secondary red light on the light as well for painting rim lights. Finally I decided to make the background but this time I took advantage of other brushes on Ibis like tree and grass brushes then I blurred the background to concentrate attention towards the character. I believe this background suits this character and the painting was finished!
