Month of hopeπŸ’— Loh contest #208

Hello family πŸ’‹ Happy new week and happy new day! It's really amazing to wake up healthy and strong to see the rising of the sun, and it is only by the grace of God. I feel so good to be back again this new week on 'Ladies of Hive community'. This week's topics are informative. @marivic10

1️⃣ We are in Pink month, a month in which we must reflect on self-care to face one of the worst diseases in the world β€” breast cancer. Tell us how you take care of yourself. Do you keep your preventive exams up to date? What do you think about this disease?

Pink is a beautiful color; it symbolizes love, nature, and compassion. It evokes feelings of compassion, warmth, innocence, comfort, and hope. The color pink is said to be a sign of good health with the phrase 'in the pink'. Though my favorite color is blue, pink is every girl's first love. October is a month of hope, 'the pink month', and in this month, we celebrate a pandemic disease called breast cancer. Breast cancer is a cancer that forms in the cells of the breast. A painless, hard mass with irregular edges is more likely to be cancerous. Breast cancer can occur in women and rarely in men; 83% of breast cancer occurs in women over 50 years old. Breast cancer can also be tender, round, soft, or even painful. Though breast cancer treatment depends on the stages of cancer...During my research, I learned that there are some things to do to avoid this breast cancer.
A) eat healthy;
Follow a diet high in vegetables, avoid sugary drinks, refined carbohydrates, and fatty foods.
If possible eat whole grains. Choose vegetable oils over animal fats.

B) avoid fast food, alcohol, processed meats and fried foods

C) mentain a healthy weight

D) stay hydrated. drink enough water and drinking water before eating will help you avoid over eating.

E) getting enough sleep:
Sleeplessness can disrupt the hormones that regulates hunger, which can lead to weight gain.

F) be physically active;
engage in at least 150 minutes intensity aerobic activities every week. You can try jogging, running, bicycling, dancing, swimming or any other chores like home cleaning.

Source

G) reduce stress; stress can affect your body and make you feel hungry.

You can also check breast cancer at home using your left hand, move the pads of your three middle fingers around your right breast, covering the entire breast and armpit, do same using your right hand, move the pads of your three middle fingers around your left breast. Using light, medium, and firm pressure to feel for any new lump, hardened knots, or any other breast changes. You can also squeeze the nipples to check for any breast discharge. Most importantly visit your breast Specialist or mastologist for check up.

Though lives were lost because of this deadly disease, 'Breast cancer,' we celebrate this month of October because there is hope. Hope for all women out there, please let us always appreciate the women around us and help fight against this deadly disease.

2️⃣ In life, we have good days and not-so-good days, I think that on a not-very-good day, eating something special β€” a typical dish, a dessert, a delicious snack β€” manages to raise those spirits, I would love for you to share a recipe for that wonderful dish that makes the joy return and makes your day better.

Most people don't eat when they are sad, but for me, it is the reverse. I eat when I am happy. Whenever I am sad or emotional, I could finish a pot of food. 😁 My favorite dishes are mostly African dishes. As an African lady, I prefer swallowing hot Eba and Egusi soup. Yummy! I eat my Eba and Egusi soup anytime, but during dinner, I prefer eating vegetables.
it has been a daily routine in my house to eat Eba and soup but on Sundays, we reserve it specially for rice and pepper soup with catfish in it, or rice and tomato sauce.

Ingredients for my Egusi soup;

  1. Egusi
  2. cray fish
  3. stock fish 2
  4. scotch bonnet
  5. 1 large onion
  6. 2 stock fish
  7. 1calabar nutmeg
  8. black pepper
  9. 2teaspoon salt
  10. palm oil
  11. beaf seasoning
  12. seasoning cubes
  13. fresh ginger
  14. 2 garlic cloves
  15. 2 cups of water

First i assemble all my ingredients

I added my grounded crayfish and mix with the Egusi till it combined, then added my red oil and 2cups of water. I cooked it until the oil appears on the surface, then adjust the seasoning to my tasteπŸ‘¨β€πŸ³
I washed my ugwu leaf with salt and drained before adding it.

Yummy!

I am ready to eat now
Come and join me.
