Splinterlands Fan Art Week 251 - Vulguine

Good day, everyone! I'm back to doing Splinterlands fan art. For this fan art, I drew Vulguine, I Rare Life Unit. If you would also like to participate, check Splinterlands' post here - here. I actually wanted to draw something with simple colors because I wanted to practice some coloring techniques. So I guess I might well submit this to the Splinterlands Weekly Contest to also track my progress.

For my reference, I found this video in Youtube while searching for some tutorials.

Vulguine are foxes cursed with vampirism. Vampires who denied to feast on humanoid flesh stalked the forests to find fresh meals. They hunted foxes in the wilds to satiate their need to drink blood. Having drained the blood from the fox, vampires would give thanks to the forest spirits and leave the body behind. The spirits were said to have created the Vulguine, raising them again as vampiric foxes.

Here are the materials that I used to create this fan art.

I started creating my fan art by creating the line art. I used a dark red color because I find it suitable for Vulguine because of the red blood on Vulguine's mouth. I then added the flat colors and put shadows on the whole body. I also began coloring the eyes, the fire in the tail, and the ears. I sprayed some black color on the face, body, and tail to give it more volume. After that, I added the yellow color to create a flame-like image. I also highlighted the area in the eyes to make it more glowing. I put more shades and highlights on the flame.

I then began creating the background. I started with cloud-like forms at the bottom using green and light blue colors. I used Gaussian blur to make them smooth, and then I added plants and leaves and their shadows. I blurred the plants at the front to make them look closer to the viewer. Next are the stars and clouds. I used blue colors and cloud forms and blended them. I also added the blue aura around Vulguine to make it stand out in the dark.

I think this is fairly cute compared to my previous fan art. Hehehe. Also, what I learned from the video tutorial is that the line art looks good or cleaner is to use two layers of line art and blurred the other one. I compared it using one layer only and I agree on that technique.
