Mexican Murals - Moe's Tavern in Cuernavaca [CCC's Street Art Contest #213]

Only a couple minutes of walking distance from the last mural I posted about there is another cool one by the same artist. It is once again fuk_guiterrez who took on a different topic this time: The scene from a bar, on the door of a bar. Why not? The exact location is Eugenio J. Cañas street in Cuernavaca, right next to where it crosses the stream. Interestingly, the map indicates the bar to be slightly off on one of the side-streets called Del Túnel, but that's not how I remember it...

A Bar Just Like Most Others

The name of the establishment is Pelancho´s Bar, and it is the typical hole-in-the-wall place that are so ubiquitous in Mexico. Behind that rolling shutter there is one single room that looks pretty much like the image painted on it: a counter with a few stools in front, and plenty of drinks behind it. Despite its minimal features the place seemed to be quite hopping when we drove by at night. (We were coming back from a wedding, so we had no intentions of visiting it ourselves.) Maybe it is precisely the bar's simplicity that attracts people to Pelancho´s. Or could it be the fact that we didn't see any other place open around at that time?

Greetings from The Simpsons

The painting shows a scene of Moe's Tavern from the well known TV show The Simpsons. The nice thing about that series is how it is filled with stereotypical archetypes, making it impossible not to recognize people you know from real life, quite possibly even yourself. At first I thought this to be a bit of a boring idea, until I realized that this was probably fully intended. After all, Pelancho´s does seem to be very "popular", meaning of the local people living in the area. Since it doesn't offer anything special, there is no reason why anyone would come here from far away. And what could represent this better than a scene from Springfield?
