Hello all sewing and pet lovers! With great joy I join this wonderful contest dedicated to our beloved pets. After a long time without contributing adequately to the community, I am happy to return to sewing with a project dedicated to the most spoiled person in the house: Ying, my cat nephew. And for this, I made a hood in the shape of a shark.

First of all, I will tell you about this beautiful, fat and adorable cat that steals the heart of everyone who sees him. From a very young age, Ying was a very affectionate kitten, who grew up to become what he is: A pampered cat. After castration, Ying became more docile than he already was and it seems that he also became twice as big, not only in size, but also adorable. He likes to sleep, be combed and caressed. He never gets tired of being pampered and spends most of his time seeking the attention of his human mother (my sister) @maisugar, who treats him as if she were his baby. Currently, he tells part of his adventures in the #Caturday community so that other felines and cat owners know a little about his personality and adaptation.

Ying: The model and muse

I wanted to make him something cute, although it seemed cliché to dress him as a little angel or things like that (given his meek personality) and I also didn't have a fabric that I liked to make him a striking outfit or an accessory that could be useful for him. Reviewing my available materials, I found a gray elastic fabric, quite soft, and after searching on Pinterest, I found shark costumes for cats, quite fun. But instead of making a suit as such, I thought of making a kind of cape, easy to put on, so that Ying wouldn't get stressed when she put it on. I chose that design because it seemed funny to me to dress the tender and calm Ying in an animal known for his aggressiveness. I think it is a clear example of the hidden nature of felines heh heh anyway... Once I decided what I was going to do, I gathered what I was going to need among my things (luckily, I have saved material that saved me 😳 ). To make the pattern, based on some of the designs I saw, I drew by eye what the hood and the back would be, since as I mentioned, I didn't want to make a suit that would make Ying uncomfortable.

😼Materials:🦈

• Gray, red and white (or off-white) fabric.
• 2 black buttons.
• White felt.
• Filling and foam rubber.

😼 Procedure:🦈

The first thing I did was transfer the pattern to the fabric, as well as cut out the pieces corresponding to the shark's fins, its teeth, gums and the label with my brand (Suecitos). Once my sister came to get Ying so she wouldn't climb on the fabric, I was able to proceed to start putting the hood together.

Ying: But human, I came to supervise my disguise 😿

I started sewing the fins, which I cut without a pattern (by eye) in gray colors (2 pieces) and off-white fabric (2 pieces). To give it consistency, after turning them over, I inserted a piece of thin foam rubber that I had left over from previous projects. In this way, the side fins are ready.

To make the dorsal fin (the one on the back), I thought about cutting some pieces that had a somewhat pyramidal shape, in order to obtain a base that would prevent the fin from giving way from one side to the other, due to movement. I cut the size more or less proportional to the suit. For the filling, I used what was left of the foam rubber and made up the rest with stuffing for stuffed animals (wadding).

When making the body of the hood, I put the two pieces of fabric together and sewed them, adding the side flaps that I had already sewn previously. After turning it over, I had a nice view of what the cape would be.

Then, I closed the pieces corresponding to the hood and for the teeth part, I sewed the teeth (which I cut from a piece of white felt) and the gum (a strip of red fabric), on a piece of off-white fabric. Next, I sewed this piece to the one corresponding to the hood and added some black buttons on the sides, to be the eyes.

The next thing was to put together the pieces of the hood and the rest of the cape, from the area corresponding to the neck. Here I took advantage of sewing my label, which I usually embroider by hand beforehand. I think these kinds of details make our projects more beautiful.

To close the cape, I added a strip of off-white elastic fabric, so that it could be easily put on without the need for snaps. To finish, I sewed the dorsal fin onto the cape with a hand seam, trying to make it as "invisible" as possible. One of my goals is to practice hand sewing, apart from the fact that I feel like I don't have the patience for it, I don't know more than the basics and in these types of steps, I always go into crisis ha ha ha.

In this way, the shark cat hood was ready. The next thing was to look for the model to try it on, which I thought would not be easy, since most of the time he spends his sleep, although I was surprised that despite his sleepiness, he allowed himself to put on the hood and take photos. Without a doubt, it was the right moment haha.

It was quite adorable to see Ying in his shark hoodie and after the photo shoot, he fell asleep wearing the same one.

Without a doubt, I really enjoyed doing that project since not only did I make something nice for my cat nephew, but it showed me that despite the time, I have not lost my skill with the sewing machine. Usually, I always made too many mistakes when sewing new things and this time, I felt that I put everything together quickly and without complications, not to mention that my deductions of how I could sew such a thing, turned out to be correct. That motivated me a lot. The only thing I could correct is the size of the hood, but since I didn't have measurements as such and I didn't want to bother Ying so much (whenever I needed to try something on him, he was fast asleep ha ha). Years ago, I had a dream of making pet clothing for sale; Maybe I can implement this type of projects for the pieces that I am going to offer in my virtual store. The truth is, now Ying has her own personal dressmaker who plans to make new pieces for her to make her look like a spoiled kitten. What more can she ask for? 🤣

¡Hola a todos los amantes de la costura y de las mascotas! Con muchísima alegría me sumo a éste maravilloso concurso dedicado a nuestras queridas mascotas. Luego de un tiempo largo sin contribuir adecuadamente a la comunidad, me alegra retomar las labores de costura con un proyecto dedicado a al más consentido de la casa: Ying, mi sobrino gatuno. Y para ello, le elaboré una capucha con forma de tiburón.

Primero que nada, les hablaré acerca de éste precioso gato, gordo y adorable que se roba el corazón de todo aquel que lo ve. Desde muy pequeño, Ying fue un gatito muy cariñoso, que creció hasta volverse lo que es un: Un gato mimado. Luego de la castración, Ying se volvió más dócil de lo que ya era y pareciera que también se volvió el doble, no sólo de tamaño, sino también de adorable. Le gusta dormir, que lo peinen y lo acaricien. Nunca se cansa de que lo mimen y se la pasa la mayor parte del tiempo buscando la atención de su madre humana (mi hermana) @maisugar, quien lo trata como si fuera su bebé. Actualmente, relato parte de sus aventuras en la comunidad #Caturday para que otros felinos y dueños de gatos, conozcan un poco sobre su personalidad y adaptación.

Ying: El modelo y musa

Quería elaborarle algo lindo, aunque me pareció algo cliché vestirlo de angelito o cosas por el estilo (dada su personalidad mansa) y tampoco disponía de una tela que me gustara para hacerle una ropa llamativa o un accesorio que pudiera servirle. Revisando entre mis materiales disponibles, me hallé con una tela elástica de color gris, bastante suave y tras buscar por Pinterest, me hallé con disfraces de tiburones para gatos, bastante divertidos. Pero en lugar de hacer un traje como tal, pensé en elaborar una especie de capa, de fácil colocación, para que Ying no se estresase cuando se le pusiera. Escogí ese diseño porque me parecía gracioso vestir al tierno y tranquilo Ying, en un animal conocido por su agresividad. Creo que es una clara muestra de la naturaleza oculta de los felinos je je en fin... Una vez que decidí lo que iba a hacer, reuní lo que iba a necesitar entre mis cosas (por suerte, tengo material guardado que me salvó 😳). Para elaborar el patrón, basándome en algunos de los diseños que vi, dibujé al ojo por ciento lo que sería la capucha y la parte trasera, ya que como mencioné, no quería elaborar un traje que incomodara a Ying.

• Tela gris, roja y blanca (o color hueso).
• 2 Botones negros.
• Fieltro blanco.
• Relleno y goma espuma.

😼Procedimiento:🦈

Lo primero que hice, fue trasladar el patrón a la tela, así como cortar las piezas correspondientes a las aletas del tiburón, sus dientes, encía y la etiqueta con mi marca (Suecitos). Una vez que mi hermana vino a buscar a Ying para que no se subiera sobre la tela, pude proceder a empezar a armar la capucha.

Ying: Pero humana, yo vine a supervisar mi disfraz 😿

Comencé cosiendo las aletas, las cuales corté sin patrón (al ojo por ciento) en colores gris (2 piezas) y en tela color hueso (2 piezas). Para darle consistencia, luego de voltearlas, le introduje un pedazo de goma espuma delgada que tenía sobrante de proyectos anteriores. Teniendo de éste modo, las aletas laterales listas.

Para realizar la aleta dorsal (la de la espalda), pensé en cortar unas piezas que tuvieran una forma un tanto piramidal, con el fin de obtener una base que evitase que la aleta cediera de un lado a otro, debido al movimiento. El tamaño lo corté más o menos proporcional al traje. Para el relleno, use lo que me quedaba de la goma espuma y compensé el resto con relleno para peluches (guata).

A la hora de realizar el cuerpo de la capucha, junté las dos piezas de tela y las cosí, añadiendo las aletas laterales que ya había cosido anteriormente. Tras voltearlo, tuve una linda vista de lo que sería la capa.

Luego, cerré las piezas correspondientes a la capucha y para la parte de los dientes, cosí los dientes (los cuales corté de un pedazo de fieltro blanco) y la encía (una tira de tela roja), sobre un pedazo de tela color hueso. Seguidamente, cosí esta pieza a la correspondiente a la capucha y le añadí unos botones de color negro en los costados, para que fuesen los ojos.

Lo siguiente fue juntar las piezas de la capucha y el resto de la capa, desde la zona correspondiente al cuello. Aquí aproveché de coser mi etiqueta, la cual suelo bordar previamente a mano. Pienso que ésta clase de detalles, hacen nuestros proyectos más lindos.

Para cerrar la capa, le añadí una tira de tela elástica de color hueso, de modo que pudiera colocársele fácilmente sin necesidad de broches. Para finalizar, cosí la aleta dorsal en la capa con una costura a mano, tratando de hacerla lo más "invisible" que se me fue posible. Una de mis metas, es practicar la costura a mano, aparte que siento que no tengo paciencia para ello, no sé más que lo básico y en éste tipo de pasos, siempre entro en crisis ja ja ja

De éste modo, la capucha gato tiburón, estuvo lista. Lo siguiente fue buscar al modelo para probársela, lo cual pensé, no sería fácil, ya que la mayoría del tiempo se la pasa dormido, aunque me sorprendió que a pesar de su somnolencia, se dejase poner la capucha y fotografiar. Sin duda, fue el momento preciso jaja

Fue bastante adorable ver a Ying con su capucha de tiburón y luego de la sesión de fotos, se quedó dormido con la misma puesta.

Sin duda, disfruté mucho de hacer ése proyecto ya que no sólo le hice algo lindo a mi sobrino gatuno, sino que me demostré que a pesar del tiempo, no he perdido mi habilidad con la máquina de coser. Por lo general, siempre cometía demasiados errores cuando cosía cosas nuevas y ésta vez, sentí que todo lo elaboré de forma rápida y sin complicaciones, sin mencionar que mis deducciones de cómo podía coser tal cosa, resultaba siendo acertada. Eso me motivó bastante. Lo único que podría corregir, es el tamaño de la capucha, pero dado que no tuve medidas como tal y no quería molestar tanto a Ying (siempre que necesitaba probarle algo, estaba profundamente dormido ja ja). Hace años, tenía el sueño de hacer para la venta, ropa para mascotas; a lo mejor, pueda implementar éste tipo de proyectos para las piezas que vaya a ofertar en mi tienda virtual. Lo cierto es que, ahora Ying tiene a su propia modista personal que tiene pensado hacerle nuevas piezas para que luzca como todo un gatito consentido ¿Qué más puede pedir? 🤣
