Monomad Monday - Marmorated Stink Bug - by Sunscape

These little "stink bugs" appear in the gardens every fall, and they especially like resting on my back porch.

The adult brown marmorated stink bug is shield-shaped with brown mottling. It is between 14 and 17 mm long, roughly the size of a U.S. dime. Its abdominal edges and last two antennal segments have alternating broad light and dark bands.

Apparently, they are attracted to warm places to hide and overwinter. Sometimes I find them inside the house, but I just put them back outside.

They can be a nuisance for gardeners if there is an infestation. They feed mainly on fruiting crops. I found them on my pepper and squash plants throughout this past summer.

As you can see, this stink bug is sitting upon a pepper leaf. I just happened to have my phone with me and took these snapshots of him. He looks rather cool in black and white for today's challenge.

These bugs look very elegant in black and white! The details just stand out making them larger.
