LOH #199 // FREELANCING VS TRADITIONAL JOBS

I work a 9-5 traditional kind of job from home. Don't be surprised. The thing is, I walk a remote job for a company that has a physical office but that gives you the liberty to go home and do the job fron home, if you please, after the period of training has elapsed.

Now, my job pans between 9 to 10 hours. I could work shifts from 9pm through to 6am, or, from 3pm through 12am at midnight. So if we go by calculations of working a 9 to 5, It equals 9 hours and if you also calculate how many hours I spend working, It is nine hours.

As much as it sometimes seems so to me, I am very uncertain if this counts as freelancing. Since I receive a monthly pay every month, only difference is I do not get to visit any office, i stay at home and do my job.

I've had to work the regular-kind traditional job where I go to an office and work, and while that is the norm for most persons and while i did, compared to present time, I'm not very sure that I enjoyed it. Still, except in certain occupations or with people who have good social network, working as a freelancer doesnt guarantee financial security(importantly).

............................................................

With my kind of job, I am quite certain that at the end of the month, i receive my pay. All I have to do is do show up and do my part, no having to pitch for clients.

Maybe I could relate the nature of my job to working freelance cause, somehow, I get some freedom. Well, not the kind of freedom that you might think because with the kind of job that I do, I have to sit at my desk from the start through to the finish except when I have my breaks. To state clearly, my kind of job doesn't give me the liberty to move around a lot. I just have to stay at my worktable because I always have mails and messages and calls to attend to at every given minute. Every moment is crucial given the nature.

The majot difference between my job and the very, very traditional model of job is, I do not actually have to go out and need to spend transport. Asides the fare, I don't have to spend so much like i would if i had a job that requires me to leave the house. All the expenses that are bound to pop-up as one leaves their home are alien to me. The only thing I have to do is keep my house stocked up with things I might need for a duration. I have the convenience to use the TV while I work. I have the convenience too to relate and spend better time with family even while I wotk.
In so many ways my job is beneficial and it is stable. The income is assured.
............................................................

Meanwhile, the beautiful thing about being freelance is thar it gives you opportunity to go out to network, to try out different things at different times,to choose what work you wish to perform, at what time and how you please. .Again, there's the flexibility to try out other job opportunities and roles Also, there's the likelihood to earn more(less too), depending on how often the job cones in and how much pay is pitched.

However, In this part of the world where I reside, a combination of both freelancing(or entreprenship) and traditional job works better as it is risky to rely on just one of the above mentioned. While the former doesn't guarantee a steady inflow of jobs, in the latter, at any time, one could lose his placement.

A combination of both job models would be quite beneficial but then, it will be time and energy sapping.

Given the nature of things around here, I might just be compelled to choose the traditional model of working, maybe in my current work fashion and finally, with touches of freelancing on the side. Lol.

............................................................

And so that is my response to the LOH contest #199 on the prompt

1️⃣ Based on your own job hunting and work experiences, which do you prefer, working from home as a freelancer, or working outside the home where you get stable monthly pay? Why?

Do well to chdck it out here and share your opinions.

But how can you combine the traditional kind of work with freelancing? Both jobs needs your time and attention especially the 9-5 work. I am just curious to know how you can combine the two with out any glitches

It depends on you and how you can work around your time. Do you not know anyone who combines working a 9-5 and owning a business on the side? Well, that6it.
People do it a lot these days

Oh! If it's owing a business of your own, I too can combine but if it's working for someone and at the same time doing freelance....wooo! the stress will be extremely heavy

No, i don't do both. I work for a firm, hence a 9-5 but the system at the job comes off with so much of a freelancing pattern.

I think your work is kind of traditional though done remotely. The only difference is you don't have to get to your office to do the job and it doesn't give you the chance to try out other roles which freelancing allows you.

Above all, I love your kind of job.

Exactly.
You got it so well, although, if i please, there's room to do some other business(es) on the side.
It's a nice job
Thank you so much for stopping by.

thanks for sharing your side..
I have experience doing both freelancing and working traditionally. yeah, sometimes it's a bit exhausting.. but work requires much time with more demands... The only thing I like working from home, I can manage my own time and choose my own type of work.. no bosses to deal with in person..
