Blockchain: Could Hive Be A Record Of Trust For AI?

▶️ Watch on 3Speak

Blockchain potential is a great deal more than just cryptocurrency.

In this video I discuss how using blockchain to combat some of the potential risks associated with AI such as deepfakes could be a major use case that makes applications very popular.

I can definitely see blockchain being used as a fact checking tool, or something to combat AI risks. But I am skeptical if they will use decentralized blockchains like Hive. I think the government or big companies will prefer something they have some control over. Hive can maybe become an independent provider of this.

Summary:

The host discusses the potential of Hive blockchain as a "blockchain of record" to address issues of trust, misinformation, and deep fakes in the digital age. He explains how blockchain technology can provide a tamper-proof record of digital content, allowing for verification of authenticity. The host suggests that Hive's open and permissionless nature makes it well-suited to serve as a platform for entities to timestamp and validate their content, creating a source of truth that AI systems and social media platforms could reference to identify and flag fake or manipulated media. He argues that while Bitcoin's main innovation was decentralized consensus, blockchains like Hive have the potential to solve more practical problems beyond just financial transactions. Overall, the host proposes that Hive could be a valuable tool in the fight against the spread of misinformation and deep fakes.

Detailed Analysis:

The host begins by acknowledging the various technological, societal, and trust-related challenges we face today, including the rise of misinformation, deep fakes, and the general erosion of trust in institutions. He suggests that blockchain technology, with its core premise of providing trust in a trustless environment, could be a potential solution to these problems.

The host explains how in the traditional financial system, users do not truly own the assets they hold, as they are custodied by third-party institutions. This reliance on intermediaries is a source of concern, especially as trust in these institutions appears to be declining. He then posits that blockchain could be leveraged for more than just financial transactions, and could potentially serve as a "blockchain of record" to combat the issue of deep fakes.

The host outlines a hypothetical scenario where entities, such as media outlets or content creators, could timestamp and record their digital content on the Hive blockchain. This would create a verifiable record of authenticity that could be referenced by AI systems and social media platforms to identify and flag any manipulated or fake versions of that content. He argues that if a piece of content is not found in the blockchain's records, it could be deemed inauthentic.

The host emphasizes that the immutable nature of blockchain makes it nearly impossible to forge or hack, providing a robust system for establishing the provenance of digital content. He suggests that Hive's open and permissionless design, as well as its resource credit system, make it an ideal platform for this type of application.

The host then reflects on the ongoing debate around the problem-solving capabilities of cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology. He acknowledges that Bitcoin's primary innovation was the concept of decentralized consensus, but argues that other blockchains, such as Hive, have the potential to address more practical issues beyond just financial transactions. The host cites examples of potential use cases, including digital identity, security, data management, and the fight against deep fakes and misinformation.

In conclusion, the host expresses his belief that Hive could be a viable solution for combating the challenges posed by deep fakes and the spread of false information. He suggests that the blockchain's unique properties, combined with the growing need for reliable and verifiable digital content, make it a promising platform for addressing these pressing concerns.
