Yet another HiveFest 9 post.

Conference venue 2 stage. Left to right: @lordbutterfly and @detlev.

After a long time being on Hive I finally have the opportunity to attend HiveFest this year and see all of you in person for the very first time ever.

Day 0

Took 24 hours from home airport to Split including layovers.

Was lucky to complete the final short layover at CDG as everyone was trying to leave Paris on the day after Paralympics.Landside at SPU airport. IMO the best looking one out of the 4 airports I had to go through despite its lacking amenities.Met the first few Hivians in Aquarelle in the evening. Image credit @arcange.

Day 1 (before opening drinks)

Went to Marjan Hill which took 3 hours to complete. Could not believe that the observation deck was just opened 3 days ago when I made it there, what a perfect timing.

Begin here.Viewpoint at Marjan.
New observation deck near Saddle.Saddle.
Telescope at the top of the deck. Not sure what I was supposed to look at using this.Spectacular view of northern part of Split at the top of the deck.
Marjan hilltop view.Live interview by a local TV station.
Proof of presense. It can get very scary if you have fear of heights.
The other viewpoint featuring a cross......and the Croatian flag.

Met up with @ninaeatshere, @evelynchacin, @gds89 and Olivia (lmk below if anyone knows her username) for lunch, then @geo52rey, @vaultec and @platinium to discuss presentations later in the day.

Had some ćevapi at Kantun Paulina.Sun was shining directly at me that it is impossible for me to open my eyes when this was shot.

Day 1 (opening drinks)

Met the singers for HiveFest @fondew and @iamlosi. I checked out their work as soon as the names were announced on X and I liked them all (especially Losi, her songs are an earworm to me). Much better than any famous celebrity that you can think of.

I can be seen in many other similar posts such as this, this, this and this.

And of course the welcome bag.

Day 2

The actual conference day in venue 1 held in Galerija Meštrović.

Entrance to the venue.Sea view on the left.

One of his many sculptures on display. And another one.

And of course I can't leave the event without a photo with @crimsonclad.

Day 3

Continuation of day 2 held in Dioklecijanova palača. 7.30AM to 9AM (aka before the conference starts) was the best time to explore the place without too many tourists getting in the way.

There are 5 ticketed places that you can visit for €15 total.

On the same day I presented @aioha to the audience.

Day 4

Visited Pepeland (very relevant in crypto) before taking a 30 minute walk to Billard Club.

Day 5

Finished off HiveFest with viewing of rally car on racetrack and closing drinks at Antique Bar (which is rated 3.4 stars on Google due to poor service, seems right to me as dinner was served very late).

Day 6

While everyone else was on the charted boat tour I had to leave Split and end it here.

Total cost

Everything came out to be roughly €1,899.04 for me to attend HiveFest 9. Slightly lower than expected.

Final thoughts

It was well worth the cost to be able to meet every single one of you in person and to present @aioha live on-stage.

It felt safe to walk alone in Split (I have seen kids on their own at night) and most places are reachable by foot within 10-20 minutes walk. Food was as good as where I live.

However, one thing that would make me not recommend this place to anyone is that people are smoking everywhere, sometimes including indoors especially the Billard Club and the bars in opening and closing drinks (unless you're the offender yourself). It makes me sick even till now as I'm posting this.

It was a pleasure meeting you and going to lunch Ćevapi with you. Hope to see you soon! You are great!

PS: Olivia doesn't have a Hive account yet hahaha.

Ex Yugoslavian countries with all its history are pretty safe places. You really need to look for trouble to find one, or be really unlucky.

And yes in a lot of places smoking is still allowed. Technically they are not allowing smoking inside but they don't count those places as inside. For the Billiard club i was surprised. And even as an offender i do understand you. 🤷‍♂

Cool recap

oh and i do need to rewatch your presentation few more times. Feels like interesting and important, but my non tech brain that understands just bits and pieces of code, sometimes, needs a bit more to try to understand :)

Yes, I found the billiard club a bit intense and I think the smoke was part of that.

Amazing post! Well written - well said and perf recap.
Your presentation of yourself and @aioha was great. It gave me a better understanding though I'm not a tech and therefore I fall into line what @bil.prag said;

... i do need to rewatch your presentation...

And I agree 101% to the point of smoking.

Omg first of all I loved the design of your post, everything so well organized that it's a pleasure to open it and go through it again hahaha.

Wow I hadn't realized that that day the airport where you stopped over was so crowded because of the end of the Olympics, a little worry on that long trip you made to join us.

Hahaha “Proof of presense” xD thanks for sharing these beautiful pictures from Marjan hilltop view, I really wanted to do that hike but I didn't get the time or the desire to go up after you told us it took three hours haha. I also really like your pictures of the sculptures and the gif of the rally car is amazing.

It was very nice of you to come and greet us as soon as you came back from hiking, I really enjoyed talking to you for a while before everything started and joining us for lunch. Thank you very much for the picture together, I was just thinking that at the end I didn't have any picture with you, so here is our “proof of presense” together!

I understand what you mean about the smoking areas, it is something cultural, when I first moved to Europe I thought much the same, I was very surprised, but in the end one ends up understanding that it is just something different from what you are used to, but it is normal that you find it uncomfortable, as a non-smoker it is unfair hahahaha.

What a delight to read this recap of your experience, the truth is that you made a great effort to come here, something that adds a lot of value to all the work and dedication you put into this. Thanks for remembering me among your memories, I just wish I could have talked to you for a while more on a quieter day, but there were too many people, many of whom I could not even say hello, so I consider myself lucky that we have coincided that couple of times. It was a pleasure to meet you!

Same here, surprised to find that Europe has shockingly high percentage of smokers, Croatia being one of the worst offenders just under 25%.

There you go now that the photos are out 😃

So you went to the Observation Tower as well, and so soon after it opened! I went on Monday after HF finished, and was so pleased I stumbled across it, so worth going despite me not liking heights.

It's a pity you couldn't make the boat trip, didn't get round to say good bye to you. Till next time!

Maybe too soon as toilet door was still locked when I was there. Were you be able to enter the toilets when you were there on Monday?

I have never expected such kind of post from you so I guess Hivefest changed your perspective. I watched your presentation live and I wish you all the best for the project. Seems like you had a good time at Hivefest...I hope to meet you one day in person...

This would be one of a different kind as it was a rare opportunity for me to attend. No idea if I can show up in any future HiveFests.

I'm happy you could make it and your talk was really interesting. You were one of the long distance travellers this time.

I am not keen on all the smoking either. I try to avoid it and it's less of an issue in the UK these days. I agree that the place felt safe and it was very clean. I walked around at night with no issues.

Hope to see you again some time.

Wow! I am new to Hive and I so I have lot's to learn. I have seen so many of these types of post regarding the recent Hive Fest in Croatia but I have not seen one as visually informative as this one. Split looks like a stunningly beautiful place.

What a fantastic insight to the Hive Fest, thank you for sharing your photos and thoughts.
