Newcastle Brown Ale drunk in Newcastle England

avatar

Hello Hello Hivians

Women they drive you to drink ...

Do you agree?

Ach who am I kidding 🤣 The wonderful @coquicoin posted Beer with or without gluten. Do they taste the same? and invited me to participate in this week's beer challenge ... week 163 it is!!

Seriously good going and thanks @detlev for doing this and having the BEER community.

It is a whole bunch of fun, so check out The #BeerSaturday Challenge - Week 363

I remember Detlev from way back in the early days of tsu, and he was always helpful there, so it is no surprise that he is carrying on the pinmapple legacy with the worldmappin community!

As Super Eli did say in her post all about Estrella Galicia which is a beer that I did drink when I worked in Galicia in the north west of Spain, I have just come back from holiday and did have a cheeky wee beer or three!

Let's go drinking in Newcastle🍻

image.png

I have lived and worked all over the place, so much so that no place is really home for me.

When I was working in the South of England, Newbury to be precise, I was friends with guys from Middlesbrough and Newcastle...

They thought that Southern beer tasted like pissy dishwater so would drink the beer we are going to talk about today!

NEWCASTLE BROWN ALE

This was us staying in Newcastle (Newcastle upon Tyne to give it's full title which shall become apparent in a wee minute) before we got a ferry to Amsterdam. It was time for a cheeky wee beer!

Fun Fact ... In all my years of drinking Newcastle Brown or Newkie Brown as it is often called outside the North East. I had never drunk one in Newcastle...

Geordies call it Broon or Dog ... do you know why?

Well let the pouring commence...

Did you notice the big glass...

That was actually a gin and tonic for Mrs T, fluffing big it was.

Did you notice the Ale.... I only filled half the glass. That is because back in the day, I was taught to drink it via a half pint glass and to take it from the shelf not the fridge!

I love dark beers or ales especially at room temperature, I find out that is where the taste comes out. All these lagers or light beers that are super chilled have no real taste to me, a bit like why I generally prefer a room temperature glass of red wine to chilled white wine!

I fluffing digress!

Throw me off a bridge I say....

A what you say ....

The Tyne bridge I say .... Do you see the bridge in the blue star on the glass ....

Yes I got fed up not having a small glass so just poured it all in the glass....

Back to the bridge ... it is iconic and the River Tyne was only a hop skip and a jump from the hotel.

image.png

The Tyne bridge .... The bridge in the blue star on the glass ....

The river Tyne has lots of bridges over it as you can see from that picture I took.

It is quite fortuitous that I introduce the Tyne bridge on a Detlev community as I will later on make a worldmappin community post about Newcastle.

The point where I took that picture was about a couple of hundred yards from our hotel.

In fact you can see the river down the alley from our hotel. Yep the river Tyne and the iconic Tyne bridge are all over the city.

I do have pictures I took with my camera that I will be using on my worldmappin post.

So in the meantime, let's answer one question....

Do you see the 5 pointed star on the label?

I never knew the significance of the stars, it was to denote the five main breweries in Newcastle...

Interestingly enough, we were going to Amsterdam home of Heneiken which also has a 5 pointed star .... What is their significance .... ? Find out in my next #beersaturday post!

image.png

This is #BeerSaturday week and I would like to invite @asiaymalay to write a post in any language about beer with at least 3 pictures.

Thanks for visiting and enjoy the rest of your day!

Women they drive you to drink ...

When I saw the picture of the gin and tonic I thought that Matilda had snuck into your holidays LOL, thank goodness it was for Mrs. T. 😅
Come and visit me and you'll see how a cold beer can be a real treat when it's so hot ;)

Hehe!!! thank you for accepting the invitation Super Ed. Cheers 🍻💙

Oh I know Super Eli 💙 , I use to have a cafe cortado and a glass of ice cold beer in Andalusia! It was called the tengolotodo many years ago.

I know the feeling, I've worked all over the place over the years. Dark Ales are best room temperature just like red wine, I have to agree with you there. It's hard to appreciate the flavor ice cold!

Nice pictures, how was the time off?

Absolutely brilliant, in all the places we went and people we talked to, not once did I see or hear about crypto. Fun times indeed and I think puts perspective on crypto not being as widely adopted as we make out it is.

Hehe I know you have worked in many places too and great to see great minds thinking alike!

I so agree with this! having to taste different kind of beers, the light ones and added ice cube tastes like soda water haha since it's normally hot here and they often served chilled/cold . It's why I prefer dark and mostly stout cause even when chilled, it still has a taste. But I'd be okay with room temp stout and over here, that just means, pretty warm 😂

Enjoy the trip to Amsterdam, as someone who drinks Heineken quite often too, I am kinda curious what you'll have to say! I'll see that next week.

Well I never knew Mac drank! Nor did I know that you seem to have the same tastes as me. What is it they say about great minds and thinking together 😁

Amsterdam was fun and Heineken I have drunk loads over the years. You know what you are getting with it! It is interesting as we both love our coffees and therefore we love taste and flavours, that could be why we prefer dark/ales/stouts!

I was a former alcoholic😂 the hard liquor, but then I started going into beer world and just like you said, be why I prefer stout and mostly Guinness since they also go together with coffee, Have you ever tried Guinness Iced Coffee ? it's pretty darn good

I have never taken a beer of this color neither have I seen. I have been very much familiar with pale yellow.

Lovely beer though

Ah yes the pale yellow ones I call lager, and the dark brown ones I call beer!

I am a sucker for a good brown ale, but I don't think I have ever tried Newcastle which is funny because it is the most commercially available in the US I think. Most of the other ones are from craft and micro brews.

Ah yes, my dark ale of choice is McEwan's Export, but when we are in Florida it is nigh on impossible to get, unlike Newcastle Brown which is available in many places. Try and see if you like it.

Its been a while since I drank a Newkie Brown! I didnt drink one in Newcastle itself yet, although I have never had a reason to go there! Although I did hear you could get the cheapest tickets for a premiership match there at one point.

I have picked this post on behalf of the @OurPick project! Check out our Reading Suggestions posts!

Thanks for the curation Steve 😁. I had been to Sunderland, Middlesbrough and other places in the North East but never Newcastle. We always seemed to drive past it. So when we were there last week for the ferry it made sense to have a Newkie brown and tick one more off the to do list!

The beer I know is quite different from this brown ale. Too bad I don't drink beers or alcohol beverage

Well it is rare I drink nowadays, so when on holiday or relaxing I might. Well of course you have something else to be drunk!

I'm glad you stick around #beersaturday, Ed! Estrella Galicia is an above average industrial beer for the Spanish standards, there are some great ones available nowadays :) I've never sampled this brown ale though.

Cheers!
