Ask Anime Week #2: What's Your Pet Peeve Anime Trope?

We're going to make this a weekly mini-contest where we ask something related to Anime. Read the rules carefully.

TAR_contest.png

The results of Ask Anime #1 will be announced after post payout after we sift through your entries. Now for this week's question:

Ask Anime Question of the Week:

WHAT'S YOUR PET PEEVE ANIME TROPE?

Tell us the common plots and stereotype you don't find appealing in anime.

Rules:
  1. Comment your answer to the weekly question to this post as an entry.
  2. Must be in English but you can attach a section for a different language too as long as there is an English section that conveys the same thought.
  3. No need to make a post about the contest or use a specific tag for your post. You can still post about this but it serves no purpose in picking a winner.
  4. Tag someone who you think might be interested in joining (optional) but if that person participates in the event, there's a bonus reward IF either of you wins. In cases where multiple users tag the same person, we'll count only the user that mentioned that person first as evidenced by the time stamp on the blockchain.
  5. Comments must be below 4 sentences for the actual entry. There's no need to comment 4 sentences for an entry, it's just a max number to avoid the entries becoming long form posts. If you have conversations in the comment section, make sure it's done on a separate comment/reply section.
  6. Response must not be AI generated. While this can sometimes be a challenge to detect and prove, it's not worth trying because you're being asked to share in your own words.
  7. Only 1 winner will be picked. Criteria for judging will not be disclosed but the closest hint available is: put some thought into your answer within the limited number of sentences available.

Notes: Think less of this as a contest and more of an avenue to share your thoughts and get more exposure within the community. We'll adapt the mechanics of the contest depending on the outcome of the previous contests so expect rules can change in the future.

Prize: The winner will receive 2 Hive.

If you won and tagged another user that participated in the mini-contest, you get 3 Hive and the other person you tagged gets 1 Hive.

If the person you tagged won, they get 3 Hive and you get 1 Hive for tagging them along.

Announcement of the winner will be included in the succeeding Ask Anime Post. If there are any questions regarding the rules, don't hesitate to ask.

Well, I think that I mentioned in my last post about it, exaggerated characters that, make them dumb. I think it is possible to have naive characters that trust others a lot, but this type of exaggerated character is a type of comedy that doesn't bring me to an anime for sure. Characters that cry a lot or get too angry in moments that it wasn't necessary for this type of reaction.

Hey @shiftrox I know you like anime , give it a shot!

Exaggerated characters may just be adhering to a stereotype than actually fleshed out characters waiting to be developed. It's hard to balance character traits that you want the audience to relate but not too relatable that they become bland, and not too exaggerated that no one can relate to them anymore. Saitama being a one-punch man isn't relatable for his power so the balance just comes from his reactions to the minor inconveniences he experience in daily life which we can understand too.

You are correct! But sometimes depending of the situation is too much!!

I'm not a fan of isekai animes tbh. The plot is always the same for every isekai anime, okay maybe not all but most. They always go on an adventure, being heroes or something, like hello, nothing new? 😒😆
I talk about this but I still watch some. LOL

@jijisaurart @tpkidkai @ohlnwwlknat what's yours?

(count me out in this contest 🙃)

That moment when the supervillain and the hero get along together happily in the end to save a perfect plot. 😆😅 Ironically, it ruined the whole plot.

My pet peeve anime trope is mecha tropes. I usually check all upcoming anime and I always skip over all mecha anime. Lol.

In "MyAnimeList", these are the only mecha anime I have checked out.

I think what I hate the most are the anime that are only about fanservice or based all their story on that, although I understand that this has been decreasing over time, by 2010 there were many of that style, I just couldn't stand watching them, they were an immediate no, nowadays I still maintain that philosophy.

Hmmmm, they have their own audience. It doesn't bother me that much but if the story revolves with it, that's when I start to get disappointed

The biggest issue is when the anime trick their audience making them show a very unique and original plot. But then eroding to a very cliche and generic situation of teenagers high school students living together and going through the same awkward issues of living as a boy and girl, forgetting or minimizing the whole point of the show, or maybe a harem type, or isekai.

@minigunner here is the community i mentioned before.

Tnx for the mentione 🙈 It's so early, just woke up and had to really focis what this was all about 😁😁😁

To me it's the never ending series. I like stories with true purpose and ending. Some anime just go on forever.

@artakush You watch Anime, maybe wanna share your thoughts?

Aaahhh yeah there are just animes that never end 😅 If the story is still the same, it’s dragging to watch

Also, stories shift to a totally other direction and then suddenly its a new storyline 😁

Strong Yuri/Yaoi plot. If I see an anime that has this tag I immediately skip it. Never been a fan of it since.

If friendship stuff I am all for it..This is why I dropped the Love Live Series the Yuri is getting strong.

The biggest trope I have issues with is "nuding the loli." This trope revolves around young girls (Example: Maria in Haganai) or the "500 year old" (main female lead of Dance in the Vampire Bund) being completely naked in a scene with no reason or hiding. This trope can be less problematic (see A Sister's All You Need or Onimai for partial subversions) but often is just tasteless.

One of the problematic ones I've identified too. Not just in loli in particular but to all characters (including men). Just being nude for the sake of nude and fan service unless there's an intended gag leading up to some confusion about the nude state like an ecchi or comedic genre. Even nude gags become stale after subsequent use.

Definitely agree there. I have this saying: “Context is everything”. I’d like to think I’m a bit more tolerant of standard fan service but it can be too much for all ages

Ufff, a lot of things bother me, but here are a few:
. Unnecessary fanservice
. . that they take their clothes off and make sexual jokes with underage characters (Lolis).
. Excessive gore that is unnecessary or has any weight in the plot.
. Excessive Mary Sue characters
Another thing is poor plots, I recently talked about Belle and something I didn't mention in the post is that at the time I saw that many people said it was a good movie and now that I had a chance to see it, it really isn't. And I'm not saying it has to be the great plot that makes you think a lot, but that at least it's decent, I explain better in my post (it's not shameless promotion) and clarified that I saw it without any expectations.

@iam-siki what's your?

Well, let's see 🤔🤔.

  • First, I don't like that most great animes or anime with good prospect got CANCELLED or stopped abruptly because of something. Most especially after the first season. It makes my heart hurt. Others are
  • I don't like fillers in anime.
  • To many repeated back stories.

Apart from these, the rest, you've said it.

Sometimes I like fillers but most of the time I don't.
Good animes that got stopped but you're already so hooked - those are the animes that I really want to know what's next but can't do anything about it now because they're cancelled. 😒

Exactly, you got it. It's frustrating.

I don't generally like to use the word hate for things but I hate harems with a passion, why? because I dislike all indecisive and misleading protagonists, shucks, I hate reverse harems as well. Many of the protagonists in these harems aren't even that amazing in character, even compared with any other guy in that specific anime, they just happen to be the protagonist is all.

I also hate when they make many seasons of generic, no substance anime (I won't name any so as to not rattle the hornet's nest) and they leave really good anime floating in the water after one season.

There are some no substance anime that's out there just for laughs and makes you feel good. I don't really hate them but it could have been better if they have some good plots.

When a main character is a boy and he is a total douche bag but girl character who deserves a better partner is still head over heels for him. Also, almost all stories has male as the main character and historically focused on only male.

Hello! @intishar come and share your thoughts!

i find it hard to follow an anime where the lead character tries to save or solve every problem of all people surrounding him/her. he/she then wallows when something goes wrong.

what do you think @ohlnwwlknat and @fuzzyme

Hmmm 🤔

  • A cliffhanger followed by a filler/flashback episode.
  • Overcoming all the unbeatable enemies due to friendship. ugh… maybe I just really hate fairytail?
  • A long running anime that never ends

There are many but I will mention only one, Harem. It irritates me to see 100 girls around a protagonist who is not even worth it (for example High School DxD) and vice versa, hundreds of guys around a woman who keep mentioning why they are so fascinated with her and take 30 minutes each giving their explanation all the time (for example Uta no Prince-Sama) haha

I want to know what you think @aibi93 👀

Hmm.
I guess the one anime trope I can't stand is the boy love slice of life trope.
I just feel it's wrong 😂.

Pet Peeve anime trope? Pervy Grandpa. The panty stealing grandpa in Ranma 1/2. Pervy Sage in Naruto. What kind of self respecting man who has decidated himself to learning and self improvement goes gaga for teenager panties. Seriously.

how cool this section, I had not seen it.

for me I think one of the styles that I like the least and I usually get bored is those where there are fights or similar and the protagonist simply does not seem to be the protagonist to lose against everyone or easily, can be boring anime where the character is super strong but if I see an anime, I usually generate empathy and those where it seems that everyone defeats the protagonist in the first fight I usually get bored.

reminds me a little bit of knights of the zodiac where I think everyone beat up Seiya in the first fight hahaha.

I would like to invite @stk-g
