Ask Anime Week #3: Name a villain that had good reasons to oppose the hero?
We're going to make this a weekly mini-contest where we ask something related to Anime. Read the rules carefully.

Tell us which character had justifiable motivations to oppose the protagonist.

Itachi Uchiha from Naruto is undoubtedly a villain who killed his entire clan, and later it is known that he did so because he received orders from the leaders of Konoha to prevent the coup d'état and a war. He did all this to protect Sasuke, his brother who has the sharingan.
Curiously, later on, karma is responsible for causing his own brother to defeat him in a battle, becoming mortally ill, and then finding out about the sacrifice his brother made for his people.
A really nice story.

One of my favorite is Pain againts Naruto in terms of idealism of peace leading to the moment where Naruto is rendered speechless and unable to answer when Pain described the Cycle of Hatred on him. Ideologically, I think he has the complete victory morally in that episode even though he has questionable moral actions. The symbolism of what is meant to live that's full of suffering and hate, being born into feeling the fear and sadness when growing up from the war, witnessing the violence and death, accumulating the hate all those years that he doesn't want to see the suffering he endured happen to any other person.
That episode hit harder, knowing how divided the world is which we relate in our generation right now.

I'll bite at this one, although you probably haven't seen the anime.
I'm going to go with Akiko Natsume from Cat Girl Nuku-Nuku.
Her son was taken from her by her ex-husband. Her son's life is in constant danger from a military weapons project stolen from her company.
She fights relentlessly to get her son back.
Who could argue with those reasons.
A loving mom just looking out for her son.

Of the recent Anime that I have seen the villain with whom I sympathized the most was Majima from the anime Lycoris Recoil, at first you may think that he is simply a lunatic terrorist obsessed with chaos (something similar to the Joker who only wants to see chaos and destruction) but in the end he ends up having a simple ideal but something just.
at the end of all Majima just wanted to end with the control and manipulation of the people by the group in charge of watching everything from the shadows, he wanted to generate chaos and madness but so that the characters knew the whole truth, as they were just puppets of the group that regulated everything and created a false peace and security by eliminating everyone, in the end I thought his idea of ending the fantasy and show the whole reality to the people so there could be chaos was fair.
I would say Light Yagami from death note.
After finding the notebook that kills the person whose name written on it, he then follows his wicked sense of justice with the ultimate goal of cleansing the world with evil doers - killing the world’s dangerous criminal.
Although he had all the good intentions, Light became corrupted with too much power where he started using the book for his own personal gains. But in the end, the worldwide crime rate was down to 70% thanks to his work.

I completely agree with you, Light had so much potential to become a detective and do things under the law, but he just decided that using the deathnote was the permanent way of doing justice.
There would be a lot of people who'll call Pain or Madara from Naruto but my choice is a bit of the charts.

I wonder which villian you'll choose
The first person that came to my head was Eren Jaeger. To be honest, there are a lot of villains the choose from,I just chose the one I'm really educated in.
Attack on Titan was the story of Mikasa written in Eren's POV and told by Armin. That explains why at the beginning of its first season,we hear older Armin's voice.
Now,some would say Eren turned evil because he swore he'd wipe away all titans the day his mother was killed by one. I think the main reason why people saw him as evil was because they had no idea what he was going through. Yes,indeed everyone has a choice to either do evil or do good but sometimes no matter how much good you do in this world,it still remains the way it is, a very cruel place,this is something we all saw in the story of Attack on Titan. Eren wanted the world better, safer. He wanted a safe place for the people he loved. Now,yes we all know he used some extreme methods and killed over billions of the world's population but he didn't really have a choice. Plus,he said he was sorry🥹🕊️
