Ask Anime Week #6: What's the first isekai anime you've watched?
We're going to make this a weekly mini-contest where we ask something related to Anime. Read the rules carefully.
Ask Anime Question of the Week:
Rules:
- Comment your answer to the weekly question to this post as an entry.
- Must be in English but you can attach a section for a different language too as long as there is an English section that conveys the same thought.
- No need to make a post about the contest or use a specific tag for your post. You can still post about this but it serves no purpose in picking a winner.
- Tag someone who you think might be interested in joining (optional) but if that person participates in the event, there's a bonus reward IF either of you wins. In cases where multiple users tag the same person, we'll count only the user that mentioned that person first as evidenced by the time stamp on the blockchain.
- Comments must be below 4 sentences for the actual entry. There's no need to comment 4 sentences for an entry, it's just a max number to avoid the entries becoming long form posts. If you have conversations in the comment section, make sure it's done on a separate comment/reply section.
- Response must not be AI generated. While this can sometimes be a challenge to detect and prove, it's not worth trying because you're being asked to share in your own words.
- Only 1 winner will be picked. Criteria for judging will not be disclosed but the closest hint available is: put some thought into your answer within the limited number of sentences available.
Notes: Think less of this as a contest and more of an avenue to share your thoughts and get more exposure within the community. We'll adapt the mechanics of the contest depending on the outcome of the previous contests so expect rules can change in the future.
Prize: The winner will receive 2 Hive.
If you won and tagged another user that participated in the mini-contest, you get 3 Hive and the other person you tagged gets 1 Hive.
If the person you tagged won, they get 3 Hive and you get 1 Hive for tagging them along.

I think that on the 80s there was an Isekai, I think you can consider Inuyasha an Isekai as the girl get send off to a mythical japan. Classic anime.

I think SAO was the first isekai anime I watched and when I did, I didn't even know it was from that genre haha being so popular at the time, I was encouraged to watch it a couple of years after its release.
it's hard to remember exactly what I saw as a child and I don't even remember hahaha. I think maybe one of the first I got to see was Inuyasha, I remember I used to watch it a lot in childhood but I never got to complete it, now I think the first one I got to see complete or at least all the chapters that have come out was No Game No Life, an anime that I'm still waiting for a new season :/.
I remember I saw SAO before but I never really considered it as an isekai anime, they are always in the same world but the virtual reality takes them to another one haha.
If my memory serves me right, it was "El Hazard". This anime was so much fun to watch and there are lots of funny moments that come with it (which is I think the only reason I loved it).
I'm not really a huge fan of isekai, but I know people who are really into them. I'm not sure if you could consider it an isekai but I enjoyed watching SAO, No Game No Life and Log Horizon. Are they considered isekai? If not, then... it's probably Ni No Kuni. (^^,)/
All three most definitely apply
Well, I grew up watching the OG Digimon Adventure. I guess that would be my first isekai anime. I still love the German opening which is very mesmerising.
I would love to mention my friend @cyclopshive to be a part of this.
The First Isekai was Sword Art online.
Didn't even know about Isekai back when I watched it😂, I remember it being part of one of the very first anime's I watched 😂😂
@jza already mentioned it, but I also have to mention Inuyasha because it was the first anime I ever watched and the one that made me love the anime world. It's one of those unforgettable and magical stories that leave a special mark on you.
@omarqm @eldiariodelys have you watched any Isekai? Share it with the community 💕
even before i have known of isekai as a genre, the very first that i can consider to be one is fushigi yuugi (mysterious play) which was originally aired around 1995. after opening a book, our heroine miaka was transported to the story's world where she had to gather seven warriors in order to fulfill three wishes (just like that of a genie). i was amazed at how one character was designed: a monk with a mohawk and curved lines as eyes making him a perfect oxymoron of a learned, badass and jolly person all in one. sadly, it has discontinued airing in the philippines so i wouldn't know how it ends, but it was quite interesting for it's ancient folklore plot and the constant guesswork of who the friends and foes were.
@ohlnwwlknat @fuzzyme where are your entries?
To be fair, there are plenty of Isekai I’ve watched over the years but it’s not a subgenre I actively seek out on that merit alone. My first two Isekais (watched both around the same time): Digimon Adventure 1 and Little Nemo. I rewatch Digimon every few years but have only seen Little Nemo twice.
SAO is the first Isekai I watched and continues to be one of my favorite animes.
