Feathered Friends - Show Me A Photo Contest Round 140

Shorebirds and Seabirds, not too many of them around this neck of the woods, although I do see some Seagulls hanging around the McDonalds in town. They sure do love French fries. The pictures that I've included in this post were taken while we were on vacation in the Sunshine State, Florida.
All of the pictures that I've included for round 140 are those of the Brown Pelican.

The day these pictures were shot, I was taking a walk with my granddaughter who joined us for the week, flying in from New Jersey with her family. When we picked them up from the airport she was all excited for this was the first time she had been on an airplane.

This was also the first time she had ever seen a bird of this size. This little girl has no fear and when we were within just a few feet of the bird, I had to stop her advance. She wanted to pet the pelican, which I told her was not a good idea. I explained to her that the bird was a wild bird and that it probably didn't like people touching it. Her next question was, Pop can I take the bird home? I explained to her that the bird didn't like cold weather and that's why it lives in Florida.

Her answer to that was that she would let the bird have her blanket. That sweet answer had me smiling from ear to ear. You've got to love the innocence of children!

One way or another she was going to work it all out. When I told her that the bird wouldn't be able to fly back home with her on the airplane, she had that problem solved as well.
Her suggestion was that the bird could follow the plane.

After convincing her that this also wouldn't work out, we both just stood there, her admiring the Brown Pelican and me admiring this very special little kid.

Good luck to all the folks that enter this week's contest.

Children are really cute in how they speak and how they reason

To them, the solutions are very easy and in the big picture, you can see their logic.

First time I saw a Pelican was in Bulawayo park, much like her I was perhaps a wee bit older (about 10), Dad had to restrain me from going to say hello to everything that moved.

Excellent photography and lovely memories.

That's the beauty of pictures, they have a way of reminding you of the good times you've had in the past.
The only thing that I don't like about pictures is that they also remind you of just how fast time is passing.

Time is like a runaway train, sometimes people write about a specific that sends you straight back to the old filing system....

Man those shots remind me of the sea and get me thinking about vacation again! Fantastic pictures of majestic birds and a cute story to go with them.

Good luck old friend!

With winter around the corner, unless you're thinking of getting out of town for vacation you may want to break long johns if you're staying local.😁

Some of the stuff that she thinks and the answers she comes up with tickle my heart.
A few weeks ago when they visited we were sitting on the front porch and I said that I needed to paint the living room over and that I hated painting, and always made a mess. Her reply was, "Pop' you just need to practice more." What a great answer, one that had me smiling from ear to ear.

She did have an answer for everything and all of her replies made sense to her.

How beautiful your daughter who feels that protective instinct and love towards the pelican and surely towards animals in general.
Beautiful pictures.
