Feathered Friends - Show Me A Photo Contest Round 158

I know that my first picture doesn't have two birds in it and the one bird that is in this picture is fake, not that fake birds aren't cool. Scroll down and you'll see some bona fide friends that get our hearts racing and our cameras clicking.

While vacationing in Florida and on our way to our final destination, New Smyrna Beach, we stopped at St Augustine. We visited St Augustine on one other occasion a few years ago, but we didn't drop by the Fountain of Youth. If you ever get a chance to visit this historically rich area, don't pass up the opportunity.

As soon as we made our way through the entrance to the Ponce de Leon's Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park we were greeted by several Peacocks/Peafowl. These splendid birds were all over the place. I was told by one of the workers there, that within the park limits, over 100 Peacocks call this place home with one pair being Albino Peacocks.

White peafowl are often called albino, but albinism is a specific condition that causes red eyes and extremely pale skin. Albinism in peafowl is incredibly rare and largely unstudied.
Most white peafowl have normal-colored eyes and pigmented skin. Their feathers are white due to a genetic mutation known as leucism, which inhibits melanin from being deposited in their feathers. Leucism also affects buffalo, horses, giraffes, deer, axolotls, and other birds.

We were hoping to see this very rare bird, not that seeing the norm when it comes to Peacocks wasn't a thrill, but we wanted to catch the aberration.

IMG_0455.JPG

After spending several hours there, capturing at least 100 photos of all kinds of historical jewels, it was time to leave. Before getting back in the car, @farm-mom needed to hit up the lady's room. By a stroke of luck, there they were sitting on a branch that hung over the entrance to the restrooms.

IMG_0470.JPG

The second Peacock was hanging out on a branch just above the pair in the first picture. I was super excited and my trigger finger was ready to do its thing, snap away. Guess what happened next? No, the Peacocks didn't fly away, rather, the battery to the camera went stone-cold dead, BIG BUMMER.
If I had only taken fewer pictures of everything else, I could have caught some more pics of this rare bird.

IMG_0471.JPG

In a future round of SMaP, I hope to share with the #featheredfriends community some more pics of this stunning bird.

It's always a lot of fun participating in this contest and seeing what others have posted, all of which is made possible due to the efforts of these three gals, thanks, ladies. @nelinoeva, @melinda010100, and @barbara-orenya.

I am so delighted to see your entry is about peacocks. I know how frustrating is if the battery is flat. Once I forgot to put it in the camera after charging. Now I have spare in my bag along with extra memory card.

I'll never go off on an adventure without taking your advice, extra battery will now be situated in my pocket.

There was so much to see at this park and I hope to do a post showing all that was there for one to enjoy.

Thanks once again for your commitment to the #featheredfriends community.

Hahaha, the batteries did not cooperate with you big brother.
Probably these peacocks are waiting for their peahens who are inside the restroom as well.😜😁
What a cool place! Your second photo with a huge peacock on the wall... I thought they aren't real or like probably statues. I have to enlarge the photo to see if it's really real!! Haha.... You got me there!
Best of luck on the contest!

What's happening, girl?
That will be the last time I go anywhere with the camera without having a spare battery in my pocket.

Robin took a while before exiting the ladies' room. When I asked her what took so long she said that there was a line in the restroom, 10 deep with peahens. 😁

I love enlarging pictures that catch my attention, you get to see so much more detail.

Have a splendid day, my friend.

Having spare batteries are really essential specially when we go travel. I've had that experience too when we visited the island paradise of Palawan here in our country, if you Google Palawan, you will see what I meant.
We were doing some island hopping and swam to the big and small lagoons but we're not able to capture any of them for all our gadgets got lowbat..... Now they are all just memories in our minds....
No hard copies.

It's already 12:48 am on my side of the globe. So it's a good mor-night already... ☺️😄🤭
Have a great day big bro! I wonder what kind of hobbying are you doing. Now!

So amazing that the albino peafowls also appear so far away, as we also have them down here, at the southern tip of the African continent. I did a post on them a few years ago.

Hope that you guys are well, and all our !LUV

There was so much to see at this park besides the Peacocks but spotting these two albino birds was a thrill.
We are doing great despite the 10 inches of snow that fell yesterday. Our new tractor sure did make snow removal a cinch.

I hope things are going well for you folk and your charity is running on all cylinders.
Give Marian our well wishes and I hope you're behaving yourself so that she has one less thing to attend to! 😁

I remember the thrill when I first spotted an albino, as I at first thought that it was a turkey.
Wow! 10 inches are not a joke, and I am glad that you had the foresight to get the new tractor.

Things are going as well as can be, and we are also now in the process of forming partnerships with 2 soup kitchens in preparation for the winter period. Papillon's long term projects continue to run well.

Me? Behave? Not on your nelly, as I am a very innocent soul 😇

Marian sends her love and blessings to you guys ❤️

Your charity continues to expand. Partnering with 2 more soup kitchens will surely be a blessing for those who depend on the good deeds of others.
Everything else running smoothly, good for you guys.

A little misbehavior once in a while keeps the ladies on their toes, but just as long as they don't start to misbehave then we gents are good to go.😁

Thanks for the pizza and luv, always appreciated, my friend.

One has to try to stay abreast of current needs my friend, and instead of our old modus operandi, we no longer rush out and try to do things on our own, as it is needless to try and re-invent the wheel. So, the common sense is to partner with reputable and established charities and to support them with their needs.

Funny that you should say that, as normally when we are good to go, then by grace sanity steps in and prevents us from really going anywhere. 🤣

Common sense, that's something that politicians could use a big dose of. Re-inventing the wheel is surely a waste of time and money, yet this is a common practice of many folks.

Sadly the money pots mean more to them than the people my friend. Every time over the years when people ask me how they can open their own charity, I advise them to rather partner with an existing charity in their own area. But it's a battle, as pride stands in their way. One cannot open a charity for the purpose of showing others how great one is, as the focus should solely be on assisting the needy people.

So many don't understand that the glory belongs to One only. We are all empty vessels that the Holy Spirit can use to help others.

We hope that you guys will have a great Easter weekend 😊
