Feathered Friends - Show Me A Photo Contest Round 160
Most times it is very simple to distinguish a male bird from a female bird, the male is usually more colorful than its counterpart. #Mother #Nature once again has its reasons for what it does. In this situation male birds have the more colorful bodies to attract a predator that may be threatening a nest. I've chosen to show a few pictures of what I believe to be a male Mourning Dove.
In doing a little investigating the one big difference between male and female Mourning Doves is that the male has a blue-tinted crown and nape, and a pink-tinted throat and breast, while female has a gray-brown crown and browner throat and breast.
We have many Mourning Doves in our neck of the woods and most times they're sporting the colors of a male.
A big thank you to @melinda010100 @barbara-orenya and @nelinoeva for this week's contest.
Astounding how many birds the difference is vast, yet others it may be slight colouring that keeps one guessing, not always easy to tell the difference! Nice captures on your doves.
That's the beauty of technology. Most things you want to learn about are fight at your fingertips.
Have a splendid weekend!
The mourning dove has such an interesting colour. Nice choice to present for an entry. 🙂
Thanks Neli. With all of the morning doves that show up here I was hoping to get at least one picture of the female. The female looks like it has a lot to choses when looking for a mate.
Wow
Thanks for helping us with how to recognize the male and female doves
Nice pictures!
Having a computer sure helps.
This contest is very good, so I am trying to participate in it, this bird is very beautiful.
It's a lot of fun, if possible you should join in!
Yeah sure.
What a pretty bird. I wonder why they are called mourning doves though? Do they show themselves when someone is mourning? Just a wild guess🤭🤭🤭
