Feathered Friends - Show Me A Photo Contest Round 174

Robins, Robins everywhere, heck I even live with a Robin.

This will be the second nest of Robins that I have spotted this year and it is the second time I've entered this theme in a #SMaP contest. The bush in this picture is a Blueberry bush that is just a few steps from our front porch. For a week or more I observed Robins flying in and out of the bush. Being that the berries were not ripe yet I figured the birds weren't there to savor the wild fruit, and that thought was dead-on. With some probing, I was able to spot the nest

Here is what I found, a nest that was cradling two stunning light blue eggs.

With the Blueberry bush located alongside the driveway, I walk under the nest several times a day.

Well, yesterday I was startled when one of the newborn Robins, who must have been surprised as well, decided it was time to give flight a go. The baby bird was airborne just long enough to make it across the stone driveway, landing in the grass. I grabbed my camera and took a few pictures as the parents dove at me squawking the entire time.

The little fellow did pretty well, flying away every time I approached it, landing about 15 feet from where it took off.

This picture is the one I would like to be considered for this week's contest.

This morning I decided to check out the nest to see if the other baby Robin had also left.

Since the egg is blue, does it mean that the bird will be blue too?

no, the bird will look like the parent in this post, red chest.

This is the second year in a row that some house sparrows have nested in the birdhouse I made, the Lincoln Bedroom.

Thanks, my friend, coming across the second nest in a month was as special of an experience as the first time around.

A brilliant entry, and no, I didn't spot the nest. Our robin babies look exactly the same, but the adults look totally different to what you guys have. We are trapped here in extremely cold and destructive weather, but thankfully I can still pop out to take photos now and then.
That entry photo of yours is fabulous.

The nest was hard to spot. Even after I thought something had to be going on in the bush it took me several minutes to locate it.
The weather has been crazy around here as well. Two days ago our town had a tornado warning, I don't think I can ever remember that happening.

Yep, I know how difficult it is to locate a nest, as the birds hide it from predators. The eggs are beautiful, as I have not yet seen a robin's nest.
You guys as well, and the weather has gone crazy across the world. Still cold and wet here after all of the storm damages, and now a new red warning out for disruptive rain, as they call it.
Such is life!

Btw, Marian wants to know if you received her mail?

We had another tornado warning yesterday for our county and Mcdonough, our town was mentioned. we were warned to take shelter. Lightning, strong winds, and heavy rain. We lost our electricity and things got so crazy I even opened the trapped door to our basement and threw a few blankets into the crawl space.
That was a first. After about an hour or so things got better and at least we didn't have to get into the crawl space that is only about three feet in height.

I did get the thank you email from Marian.

Best wishes to you and Marian as well.

Sorry for the late reply, as we are a bit up to our ears with work over here.
Bad news about a tornado warning and by God's grace you guys are safe. We know how it feels when the angry storms drop one in blackness, with the wind howling like wolf outside. Never a pleasant experience. Your basement seems to be a bit cramped my friend. Over here the people build wine cellars under their houses, and they store a lot of other things down there. Big rooms with wine racks and wine tasting tables. They even have toilets down there, and the one that we have been into was an equal size as the double story house that was built on top of it.
So, maybe you will have to think about something to increase your basement space?

Glad that you received the mail.

Thank you and all of the best also to you folks.

With the little fellow not being able to fly too well makes it an easy target.

Robins everywhere, I trust you and your Robin are well enjoying summer up there.

Gorgeous witnessing first flight, always a surprise at how quickly they become airborne not too much prodding as we have with some that hang around forever !LOLZ

Have a wonderful day! !LUV from Durban.

We are doing great, thanks for asking. It was just a few weeks ago and the birds were still tucked away in the eggs and bang, now they are flying. Nature is incredible for sure.

Amazing, after couple of weeks suddenly they take off instinctively knowing what they have to do.
