Time For Shadows in RDR 2!

Hello there,

It was a bit late entry in the contest, but catching the shadows was not easy. It was difficult as Red Dead Redemption 2 is not that good when it comes to producing shadows. Flickering, and low fps were some of the problems. I turned my graphical setting to the highest and it dropped my fps to the lowest, a lot since my graphics card is almost 8 years old now.

I wanted to catch shadows and do experiments as well, like what type of surface gives shadow and what creatures can have good shadows. Due to many wild animals living in the forest, catching such shadows is not possible. Yet I am confident that the takes will show you the best of this game!

The contest blog is here, feel free to participate and showcase your best captures Contest

I wanted to play the game naturally and capture the shots that come in between. The best way of this is to roam around for the mission and capture shadows in every lighting condition.

Shadow in a lamplight. I was on one of the hills on the west side of the map. I came closer to this settlement. Realism has reached an all-time high, the reason is that not only dogs but even cattle warn their owner if they see any intruder on the property.

This cow just "moo" loudly enough to wake up his owners and property dogs. And the owner came out with his revolver. Realism!

I escaped from the property. And went to the hills for a morning view.

Dogs were playing and I was waiting for the bright sunlight to start catching up with the shadows.

Here it comes, the iconic Arthur Morgan-style shadow!

I went downhill near the riverside, I wanted to capture the shadow of hills that were appearing in the river.

I saw the shadow of the great railway bridge, the perfect moment. Luckily I was there to capture the whole bridge shadow.

I continued my journey and followed the riverside for more great captures.

Shadows of a tent site. The camp owner was not cool.

How about a colorful shadow of the sky in this sea? Looks amazing!

These two O'Driscols needed my help. I gave them a greeting from Dutch!

I continued my journey towards Saint-Denis as the city is full of lights and can help me to take good shots.

On my way to Saint-Denis, I came across this stop, where the gangs attempting to loot a train. I intervened.

I came to know they were O'Driscols. Time to greet them.

I jumped on the train wagon to get the shadow and see how it looked on the metal surface.

Checked. I continued my journey. I wanted to take a shortcut from Rhodes City.

Back in the Valentine, the shadow looks like this on black wooden surfaces. It was black as the soil in Valentine City is black.

But in Rhodes, the shadow on the red soil looks quite appealing. Posed with a dog!

The man with the wooden flank, you can see the difference between shadows on black soil and red soil. Below is the shadow of a wagon on black soil.

This person on the bench was playing a musical instrument. I have heard similar instruments so it caught my attention.

Met this fellow, I helped him in the forest a few days back. He was surrounded by the wolves. He called me and offered me anything from the store for free! Realism!

I went inside the store and selected a new outfit for me.

Howdy, my fellow gamers!

Shadows of train wagons!

This fellow was running away from the fields! I didn't want to intervene as there were already a few people running with a revolver shooting at him.

Shadow of a tree! I continued my journey.

It was getting dark, and the right time to see shadows in the moonlight. I changed my outfit, I didn't want to make it dirty so I traveled on my old outfit until I got to Saint-Denis.

Looks great in the moonlight as well!

Here comes the Saint-Denis!

The street was full of lights. I got my new outfit and posed at many locations.

Shadows under the yellow lights.

I roamed streets and took pics in various lighting conditions to demonstrate the changes.

This one looks realistic!

No the door is closed, it is just the shadows that make it look like opened.

The above pic is my favorite shot of all!

After roaming around the city on foot, it was getting sunrise. These are the long shadows coming from the front people.

I went to the harbor and captured the shadow of the ship. However, I fell into the sea as well, while taking the shot.

Shadow underwater. Looks distroted and blurred from the edges. My energy was completely depleted due to all night running and jumping.

Due to low energy, Arthur was struggling in the water. And that's where the game glitched too and I have to exit from it.

It was difficult to play at 15-20 fps due to ultra quality and shadows. But the shots are nice too. I experimented on many surfaces, soil, and lighting conditions, in the day and the night too.

Initially, I thought, I wouldn't be able to participate in this contest due to a busy schedule but I finally got the time and came with my entry. Thank you @gamingphoto for this contest, a nice and challenging contest!

I thought to make a ranking blog but then it would disrupt the story-telling aspect and the journey to all these shots. Hence, I presented it in a story-telling way.

Yes it is, soft shadow is a bit glitchy but sometimes works well

Great shadow hunt, man. I didn't think you'd get such fantastic shadows in night time as well.

I'd definitely intervene and tried to help that fellow.

Yeah but intervening would not help as the shooters will think of you as a thief and start shooting at you too. (From my previous gameplay)

how amazing this title looks, they were great shadow photos although for my taste the best of all were the night ones under the light of the lamps, the effect is fantastic :D

Thank you! While capturing in day I thought to give a try in city lights and it came out perfectly as expected
