RE: HivePOSH Impressions Contest #6 and Results of #5. Get a Delegation For Sharing Hive Links on Reddit!

You are viewing a single comment's thread:

okay, hi x-rain, I know what the problem is now, been digging for hours to try and ascertain what the problem was and it is as follows, it appears that you have your post view settings on reddit set to compact and not the default reddit setting of card view; and in card view (the default setting) my links are clearly visible for every submission I made this week, as shown below:

whereas on compact view (which is not the default setting) my links do not show, as seen below:

so it appears that I have been excluded from the competition due to people having non-default view settings on reddit which led to this issue, I understand that you guys are still getting this process up and running so I am willing to forget about it this week even though I feed bad not being rewarded as I would have won the competition.

maybe to avoid this issue in future, state in the rules that the link must show in compact view mode or have the moderators check in both compact and card view mode to ensure links are present.

I am a bit gutted so I am going to take a break now, just wanted to let you know where the issue came from so that it doesn't lead to further confusion in future competitions.

all the best, mariah.

I've been a bit behind on replying to @x-rain about some things posh, though I did agree to the point he made that the posts need to "make" the viewers on other pages check out the full article rather than share the main pics and content on reddit while including a link that then may not necessarily indulge users in opening it up.

I'll check soon what the default modes are you mentioned, I'm not sure if I've switched to any particular modes. Do you use phone mainly when sharing?

Don't be too upset about this competition thing, it's quite tiny in comparison to what we're rewarding the actual shares. For instance to get 60 hive which you've received here and there for some shares, you'd need to have a delegation of 800 hp for at least a year while actively curating. We're trying to reward everyone but have to make sure the program is working as efficiently as it can to actually bring traffic to our front-ends to encourage people to check out what we have here and take part. :)

Hi Acidyo,

It's just a confluence of things that really added to my getting frustrated.

I had three submissions that would have resulted in first place had the goalposts not moved or the entries were validated in the default reddit view mode (card) as opposed to compact view. Either way I don't want to fall out with the hive folks as I really do like posting content here, on the whole it's a great community, so let's forget the past and move forward positively.

I have a suggestion with regards to the impressions contest, to me a contest is where you set the rules and the best "man" wins whereas the "contest" seems to be what I would refer to as a "newcomers showcase" which I understand completely why you'd want to incentivise new users coming in, it's good for the ecosystem.

My suggestion would be as follows (and no hard feelings would come in to play if its not enacted, it's just a suggestion, nothing more:

Take the current rewards system and split it into two totals.

Then, have a weekly "Impressions Contest" where the best man wins regardless of when they started posting.

Also, have a weekly award titled "Newcomers Showcase" in which anyone new to the platform, say circa less than 3 months, can enter and also be rewarded, perhaps have a panel of judges or put it to community vote to ascertain the winners.

This way, you reward the most prolific long-term contributors while still incentivising newcomers to the ecosystem. The goalposts never need to shift, both sides feel fairly treated, and everyone wins.

I'll leave it at that for now, hope that it makes sense, and no offense at all will be taken regardless, it's just a suggestion.

All the best, Mariah.
