My Entry for Reflection Hunters Contest: Round 199 - Lichen Reflections - GaiaYoga Gardens, Lower Puna, Big Island, Hawai'i - Saturday, December 28, 2024

Warm greetings fellow reflection Hunters! 😁 🙏 💚 ✨ 🤙

For my entry in Reflection Hunters Contest: Round 199, I'd like to share some nifty photos that I took yesterday afternoon, up on the lava next to the Flow House, of fascinatingly beautiful reflections of some lichen (a symbiotic relationship between a fungus and an algae) covering the surface of the lava. I love these lichens, and I find myself photographing them quite often.

This species of lichen grows quite slowly, is very brittle to the touch, and is among the first colonizers of new lava flows. I took these photos on a bright and sunny day, so it was a little challenging holding my phone in one hand, my ever-trusty portable mirror in the other hand, and actually taking good photos with all the glare, and balancing on the lava barefooted, but I think that these came out nicely. I hope that y'all appreciate them as much as I did when I took them! 😁 🙏 💚 ✨ 🤙
