LOH195: The challenges and strengths of immigrants

Immigration is moving into a country which you're not a native of. Immigration is a tough and complex issue and it affects people worldwide. It's often driven by hardship, war, poverty which makes people to leave their country to another country in search of safety.

I personally haven't experienced immigration but I know someone who has. One woman in my street has a son who left Nigeria to Cameroon in search of greener pastures. One day, the guy came back and I saw him and asked him how's Cameroon? He told me how scared and overwhelmed he was at first, and how everything was new and different to him. The language, food and customs, he felt out of place.

But gradually, he adapted, made friends, learnt the language and started a new life. Now he is very successful and happy and planning on getting married soon, although she misses her home country. Her story has shown me how resilient immigrants can be.

I feel compassion and pity for immigrants and the challenges they face. It isn't easy, it takes courage. I remember one day when I was traveling, I met a young girl with her dad at the car park begging for alms. Very pretty young girl, it was obvious she wasn't a Nigerian, it showed from her skin and hair. I really felt pity for her, I also felt sad that I couldn't help out in any way other than give her the little change I had.

I believe immigration enriches our society when managed thoughtfully. Immigrants bring new perspectives, skills, and cultural traditions. With support and understanding on all sides, we can make it work and build stronger communities together.

Hello my friend, I agree with you, it takes a lot of courage and bravery to leave and start over in a totally new place, which is why I will always admire all those people who have made the decision to emigrate. Thanks for participating, hugs.

Thank you for sharing! I too know someone-my daughter in law who at first knew no English. She is from Hungary and she and my son met by happenstance. In the beginning, the phone translator was the only form of communication they had! Long story short; they fell in love, and have been happily married for 8 years now. My son took on her immigration papers and for our country, is a long and drawn out process, but she was able to become a citizen! She is a strong woman and I admire her courageous spirit immensely!

Take care!🤗💜🌻

I totally agree with you on this one. It truly takes a lot of courage to relocate to another unknown country where you will start with language, culture, meals, traditions, and many others.

However, I wouldn't wait a bit if the opportunity comes my way 🤣

😂😂 Is that how tired you are of your country or you just feel like going elsewhere?
