Qualities of being a parent

Parenting is one of the most important job in this world, you are not paid for it but you do not have a choice than to do it. It goes far beyond taking care of a child's basic needs to raising kind and responsible people who will lead the world. Personally, there are three important qualities every parent must possess to raise responsible children, they are patience, lead by example and having and showing unconditional love.

Patience: Parenting tests our patience every blessed day, children do not listen, they always make a mess and even when you just finished cleaning up a mess, they make another. With patience we can calmly guide our children through their mistakes and outbursts. Some parents lacks patience which is bad, if you are quick to get angry as a parent, correcting your child with anger will only make the child repeat same mistakes and not take to the correction.

Lead by example: I believe this is one of the qualities every parent must have in other to raise responsible children. Children always emulate their parents, whatever they see their parents do is what they will also do, so it's important to do what is right so our children can emulate us. I remember while growing up, my parents always tell us where they are going to and they always come back on or before 7pm,especially my mom. This is something I grew up doing, I tell people where I'm going and I always get back before 7pm,even as a married woman with kids of my own, I don't feel comfortable being outside around past 7pm. My parents lead by example and I emulated them so we parents should lead by example for our kids to emulate us.

Show unconditional love: This is really crucial for parents, no matter how many times kids mess up or drive you crazy which is something they will do, it's important for them to know that they have a safe place to return, they have someone to support them. Showing unconditional love to our kids helps to build trust.

With these three qualities, I believe we as parents will be able to mold responsible, kind and upstanding individuals.

The three qualities you mentioned are of utmost importance for healthy parenting.
The importance of Patience can never be undermined. Kids keep on doing things that drive us crazy but we as parents need to handle them with patience.

Words are of no importance if our actions are against them. So yes, leading by example is something that help instilling attitudes and behaviours in the kids' mind-set.

Parents' closeness should be a sanctuary for kids. So unconditional love has great importance.

Certainly, when we are adults we follow the petronym of parenting but the difference is that we already have our own conscience to discern what we should emulate from parents. Thank you for sharing your opinion. Regards

Patience is definitely something that parents need. Sometimes my niece does things that make no sense to me but that’s fine because she’s just one year. Someway somehow, her mother is able to understand what she means

That's just it about parenting, we will always understand them. Besides if you pay close attention to her you might understand her.

I was the one translating for my parents what my younger ones said because they didn't understand them.

The child will always be a reflection of the parents by their example. There's no room for lazy parenting.

Exactly. If you're a lazy parent, your kids end up being lazy too.

Parenting needs excess patience.
Even in my little stay with my baby sisters, I used to loose up a lot😂
