Contest Day at Praca XV - featuring a 37 year old web-gnar

The last time I participated in a skate contest was i think 14 or 15 years old, so 25 years ago LOL. thats crazy to think about. I haven't changed much, I still suck at contests. It didn't help that i couldn't understand when they were saying it was my turn to go.

The format was like tampa am lol, everyone had solo runs of about 2 minutes. I didn't plan anything out and just skated as if no one was watching lol. Not the best strategy for winning a contest and i probably bummed some people out when i threw my board.

@doblershiva was there and @marbalskate was one of the judges who helped build the ramps. @bebeldachatuba and @gued.zzz were there but they were in the younger category. I was grouped in with the 30+ dudes.

I kinda just wanted to skate and not compete but they wouldnt let anyone in without paying the entry fee. I wasnt sure it was worth it and though maybe i would just go skate somewhere else until this little kid's dad paid for me to enter.

I dont know why. I tell people im from chicago and the dad knew a lot of people in chicago. i think it was like $10 to enter. I didnt want to let him down but i also didnt want to skate a contest. I also wanted to participate because i liked the people that were putting on the event.

They added a bunch of ramps to the plaza which looked pretty fun. I feel like the judges wanted people to skate the kink rail.

a 5050 up and across was my mark i left on the spot

They painted all the existing ramps gray to match the new ones which means someone needs to go there and graffiti them up. a few days after we went back here and the ramps were gone. I asked @marbalskate why he removed them and he said if he didn't, people would steal them, dismantle the wood use it to upgrade their houses lol. and the metal they would just sell. They cant steal the goggles because they are filled with cement.

There is always a street market at the plaza on saturdays and i took a stroll through the vendors and was very impressed by the cool stuff they had for sale. As I am writing this, tomorrow is saturday and I kind of want to go back and buy something cool.

Tons of vintage action figures, vintage milltary stuff and video games, and cool used clothing. all fairly affordable. Pretty much the ideal flea market you can think of.

I went back to the contest and lurked around waiting for it to start. thats honestly the worst part about skating contests, waiting for them to start. I get nervous.

It was cool though, I landed some stuff. I actually 5050'ed up and across the green kinked rail from flat, but before my run officially started. The other homies skated pretty good too. Pedro frontside 360'ed off the big kicker and Grio did a sick run too.

That woman in the green shirt and white pants is marbal's girlfriend and she let me stash my stuff in her bag which was super nice. she is really nice. i don't think anyone would have stolen my shit this day though.

I was honored to have been featured on the contests instagram page though with photos from @tioverde.

I dont have any video of the contest really.

After the contest we went to a video premier which was sick.

here is the video. some of the dudes have even have skatehive accounts, but they need help using the shit.

this was a super long day and we even street skated after the contest for hours. I think thats what made me sick i pushed myself to the limit physically and mentally and took on some negative energies.

I'm editing the clips of our street skating now, and will probably include it in a different post. Right now I am sitting on 2 street session edits that need skatehive posts to go with them. im trying to organize all these different skatehive posts and put them out in a way that makes sense, in a somewhat chronologial order, so as to continue the story of my adventure in brazil.
