LOH Community Contest #159: My favorite holiday...(En-Es)

Hi girls, I hope you are doing great. These last months of the year are definitely my favorite, from October to December there are many beautiful festivities to celebrate with the family, plus we are welcomed by autumn with its beautiful shades of orange and winter with that cold weather that I love. On top of this, during these three months the people I love the most have birthdays: my parents, my brother, my husband and even myself.

Among the holidays that are celebrated during this time of the year is my favorite one. That's why I want to answer the second question of the weekly contest:

What is your favorite holiday and why?

My favorite holiday is Halloween, and although it may seem a little illogical, because it is not a tradition that is celebrated in my country, the truth is that my taste for this holiday comes from the influence of movies. Since I was a little girl I always had a fascination for fantasy movies, everything that had to do with vampires, witches, magic, among others. I also loved everything related to Halloween, home decorations, children asking for candy and above all, costumes. I can't fail to mention my favorite Halloween movie: Hocus Pocus, I really can't get enough of it, if that movie doesn't make you love Halloween, then I don't know what does.

As I was growing up and watching this kind of movies I increased more my culture and taste for Halloween, but that was the only interaction I could have. However, since a few years, in Cuba this celebration has been taking a little more strength and, although it is not an official national celebration, the truth is that people are very attracted to it. In Havana, for example, there is a parade along G Street, where people wear costumes and make-up. In my province (Pinar del Río) there are one or two nightclubs that hold an event to celebrate this night, in an effort to attract more people, but there is not much Halloween-related decoration that they can offer.

The first time I attended an event like this was in 2018, where a nightclub in the city made our night by commemorating this date with a wonderful show and even a costume contest, I had a lot of fun. I went in costume, rather made up as a cat and my cousin as a witch. I can never persuade my husband to make up 😅.

In 2019 one of the top nightclubs in town did a similar event, with a costume contest and fun games. That day I dressed up as a scarecrow, my brother and cousin as clowns, my best friend was some kind of broken doll and my husband, you know, I didn't manage to convince him 🤦🏻‍♀️.

Then the pandemic came and everything came to a standstill, but last year we went again, although it wasn't the same as that year. Very few people went in costumes, of our group I was the only one, I went as Cleopatra with what I could find at hand 😅, but we still had a great time.

For all this I really like this holiday, being able to make up and look different for a night, while having a good time with family and friends. Until next time friends 🤗.

Hola chicas, espero que estén muy bien. Estos últimos meses del año definitivamente son mis preferidos, desde octubre hasta diciembre hay muchas festividades muy bonitas para festejar en familia, además de que nos recibe el otoño con sus bellos tonos de naranja y el invierno con ese clima frío que me encanta. Encima de esto, durante estos tres meses cumplen años las personas a las que más quiero: mis padres, mi hermano, mi esposo y hasta yo misma.

Entre las festividades que se celebran en esta época, se encuentra mi preferida. Es por eso que quiero responder a la segunda pregunta del concurso semanal:

¿Cuál es tu festividad preferida y por qué?

Mi festividad preferida es Halloween, y aunque parezca un poco ilógico, debido a que no es una tradición que se celebre en mi país, lo cierto es que mi gusto por esta festividad proviene de la influencia de las películas. Desde pequeña siempre tuve fascinación por las películas fantásticas, todo lo que tuviera que ver con vampiros, brujas, magia, entre otros. También me encantaba todo lo relacionado a Halloween, la decoración de las casas, los niños pidiendo dulces y sobre todo, los disfraces. No puedo dejar de mencionar ni película de Halloween preferida: Hocus Pocus, la verdad no me canso de verla, si esa película no te hace amar Halloween, entonces no sé qué lo hace.

A medida que iba creciendo y viendo este tipo de películas aumentaba más mi cultura y gusto por Halloween, pero ese era la única interacción que podía tener. Sin embargo, desde hace unos pocos años, en Cuba esa celebración ha ido tomando un poco más de fuerza y, aunque no sea una celebración nacional oficial, lo cierto es que a las personas les atrae mucho. En La Habana, por ejemplo, hacen un desfile por la Calle G, donde las personas van disfrazadas y maquilladas. En mi provincia (Pinar del Río) son uno o dos los clubes nocturnos que realizan algún evento para celebrar esta noche, con el afán de atraer a más público, pero no es mucho la decoración relacionada con Halloween que pueden ofrecer.

La primera vez que asistí a un evento como este fue en el 2018, donde un centro nocturno de la ciudad nos alegró la noche al conmemorar está fecha con un espectáculo maravilloso y hasta un concurso de disfraces, me divertí mucho. Yo fui disfrazada, más bien maquillada de gata y mi prima de bruja. A mí esposo nunca lo puedo convencer para maquillarlo 😅.

Mi prima y yo nos disfrazamos como vampira y bruja ese mismo día pero un poco más temprano.

En el 2019 uno de los centros nocturnos más importantes de la ciudad hizo un evento parecido, con concurso de disfraces y juegos muy divertidos. Ese día me disfracé de espantapájaros, mi hermano y mi primo de payasos, mi mejor amiga era una especie de muñeca rota y mi esposo, ya saben, no lo logré convencer 🤦🏻‍♀️.

Después vino la pandemia y todo se paralizó, pero el año pasado volvimos a ir, aunque no fue lo mismo de aquel año. Muy pocas personas fueron en disfraces, de nuestro grupo yo fui la única, iba de Cleopatra con lo que pude encontrar a mano 😅, pero igual la pasamos muy bien.

Por todo esto me gusta mucho esta festividad, el poder maquillarnos y vernos diferentes por una noche, mientras la pasamos bien en familia y amigos. Hasta la próxima amigos 🤗.
