Three Clicks To Liberation
After my initial encounter with hive, all I wanted to do was onboard as many people as possible. This wasn't because I had so many people to onboard but it was because I wanted to share this goodness with as many people as possible.
I joined hive two years ago and if I remember clearly, my onboarder made some complaints about how onboarding was quite a stressful task. This alone was enough to discourage me. "How would I get more people here if onboarding was that hard?" I asked myself. Well, there's news; Onboarding has never been easier.
One of our #zealy tasks is onboard someone, anyone and honestly I have in one way or another on-boarded the people closest to me so I had to go in search of someone else. Coincidentally, I met two people who were willing to be on-boarded today. One asked me to send him a link while the other asked me to guide him through the process–lucky me. While guiding him through the onboarding process, I took a few screenshots and I will be sharing with you my experience.
First, I clicked on the link that was provided to us and I was taken directly to the sign up page. I tapped on the first option "open a hive account".
A page came up, stating the steps I would follow in order to open an account.
The next thing that came up was a page that required me to input the hive username, and also select the means by which an OTP(one time password) would be sent to me. I inputted the username and chose the "phone" option.
A few seconds later, an OTP was sent to the number I inputted. I clicked on the continue button and I was asked to verify if I was a human(hilarious). A few reCAPTCHA images were shown to me and after passing the test twice, I got an error message.
At first, I thought the error message was a result of a bad network or maybe because of my mobile device so I copied the URL and tried it on another phone. I kept getting the error messages and so I decided to try out another option. Opening the account with Google.
From the top, I tapped on the "open with Google" option and I was asked to give a username. I inputted a username and immediately, the account was created. I was a bit scared, concerning how fast this method was.
At this rate, people could easily be on-boarded. All you need would be a functional google account, a specific username and you're pretty much good to go. Apart from the initial hassles I encountered, I would say that it was an okay onboarding process.
I still do not know if the initial fault was from me or from the site. Could it have been the fact that I was onboarding using mobile? Friend suggested that it might be a little glitch since I had tried using different mobile devices. If it is indeed a glitch, I feel it should be looked into as that is the first option a majority of people would go for. We wouldn't want people getting frustrated and giving up after a few trials.
Another thing I would like to point out is the fact that none of the options on the screenshot above are clickable.
Here is the account I created today. It has been synchronized and I hope I have the ability to guide yet another person through their journey on Hive.
So there you have it. A feedback from a mobile user. I hope this feedback helps in one way or another.
All images used are screenshots from my mobile device except stated otherwise
