CCC's Street Art Contest # 188 - "Dom Quixote" - Slap, Quinta do Mocho, Lisboa, Portugal
Good evening, buzzers! How are they today? All with a smile on your lips on this fantastic day for our community? I hope so!
Welcome to another post in the Street Art community!
Who doesn't know Miguel Cervantes' most famous tale? Don Quixote of La Mancha!
Well, today I want to share with you some graffiti I found in Quinta do Mocho, in Lisbon.
Surely the story of Spanish literature that has spread the most throughout the world, it has become an almost obligatory piece of reading for many generations. For those who don't remember the story, it's a parody, based on a man who, after reading so many chivalric novels, went mad and projected his life as one of the many heroes he followed in the thousands of pages and tales he experienced on the "here" side.
Alongside his faithful companion, Sancho Panza, and mounted on his beautiful horse Rocinante, they ride for long periods and discover everything that surrounds them... of course, always in delirium with their blurred visions of reality, and always flanked by their faithful friend mounted on a simple donkey.
From popular satire to the comparison of strata and visions, in the famous Chapter VIII, when he reaches a wide plain, he comes across several windmills, which he perceives as giants who want to defeat him and stop him in his tracks.
As they say in slang:
"Fight against the windmills"
which ends up meaning an attack on imaginary enemies, or an effort made in vain, the artist took as his starting point for his mural.
The windmills have been replaced by wind turbines, and the lances by paint rollers mounted on long poles...
The blazing sun contributes to a barren landscape, in which no one can be seen around the two characters, mounted on their faithful quadruped companions.
Slap SkTr was born in Espinho (Portugal) in 1978 and has always been an active artist, often painting in stores, bars, nightclubs and galleries. He was invited to join various creative groups, including the Silver Kids, now known as the SkTr Crew. Among the many cities where he has spread his art are Madrid, New York, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Deen Hag, Miami, Marrakech and Berlin. A founding member of the Portuguese Association of Urban Art - APAURB, this very active artist can be found on the social media links I've shared below.
