#BeerSaturday - Week 350 & Old Faves

zHops1.jpg

350 weeks of #beersaturday? MAN that is a long time to be on a streak and what better beverage to enjoy along the way?

Being The Blockchain Beerologist definitely has its perks, including but not limited to getting paid to tour breweries and sample new beers! When I am not globetrotting or brewing my own beer, my fridge looks like a colorful mosaic of regional craft beer I enjoy sharing with the #beersaturday alliance of #beer bloggers on #hive.

This week, I am revisiting some old favourites and considering refreshing my top 10!

Pint of the Week

IMG_0794.JPG

The pint of the week is usually one I have on the town or in a social situation for fun. This one was actually a gift for the team at @town-crier / https://towncriermarketing.ca because, besides being the go-to marketing and promotion source for small business in Stratford, we haven't forgotten our roots in I/T and helped someone with their computer. Another example of "What the hell are we going to name this beer?" as far as I can see. Chockie Wockie? Cmon man! Not a bad beer though and serious for a stout at 5.8% abv.

Boxing Bruin

IMG_0755.JPG

It has been a little while since I reviewed a beer from Cowbell Brewing because there has not really been anything new to discover....which is what I am all about. Doesn't mean I haven't been enjoying them though as Hazy Days makes a regular appearance in my rotation. I figured it was time to grab an old favourite and see if it had evolved in taste since the change in ownership of the brewery.

IMG_0756.JPG

I can't tell whether Boxing Bruin IPA has 3, 5 or 6 hops in it but they definitely include my favourites Citra and Mosaic. Seeing as this ale has nothing to do with India and is too malty coloured to be pale, I am not sure why they call it an IPA! Still, hoppy and good with a sweet body to it and the cool slightly bitter finish with that biscuit character makes this a winner. Not much has changed since I last tasted it which is a good thing. Now I should compare it side-by-side with their Hazy Days offering to see which I prefer the most!

Armed 'n Citra

One brewery I have enjoyed immensely over the past few years and never visited is Rainhard Brewing Company. About a mile from my previous house in the big city, it popped up after I moved away and I simply have not made it back to visit this great place. There is something about a smaller independent brewery with cool label design and a good IPA game that makes them perfect for beer fans like me. I have had this one before but I am exploring old faves so why not?

I am a real fan of this style of art which usually throws me back to the Faith No More album King for a Day and the cover art by Mark Ryden Armed 'N Citra definitely does roll on like a Citra hops tank blasting away with hoppy flavour and beautiful bitterness. I think the extra cannons on top are the additional Galaxy hops which seem to be present in all of my top-10 beers.

Come to think of it, I think I should refresh my top 10 as some of those beers are not brewed anymore or readily available enough to take a spot. I think Armed 'N Citra will have a spot and definitely deserve a seal of approval for this fantastic IPA. Well done again Rainhard.

chockie wockie

😆
I'm surprised that I haven't tried that beer. Did it have any extracts or fake/artificial taste to it?

It is pretty cool isn't it. I think it is a one-off brew for them but I definitely enjoyed the sweet and malty dark for a change.

I am so sure those types of beer will definitely not be expensive if I am not mistaken

My daughter-in-law knows that I fancy IPA's and whenever she spots a new one she'll get me a couple of 6-packs. Both of these were pretty good, with the one on the left having a 9.0% AC.

Peace!

Oh ya the one on the left is probably more my jam but you would have to balance that out with the lighter pilsner for sure. I keep hearing good things about Brooklyn and remember seeing them on the shelves up here a couple years ago. I will have to hunt some down again.

That Boxing Bruin looks good! I like the strong stuff... The pale ale doesn't look too bad either. Now the Chocolate Milkshake is a bit odd, but never judge before trying it out is my motto!

Here in California we have a lot of nice craft breweries too!
