SMAP 179 - Show Me A Photo Contest - Guests That Decided To Stay
Hi everyone. Let's welcome Round 179 of the Show Me A Photo or SMAP Contest hosted by @nelinoeva. The contest post can be found here. Read up and join us in the fun if you haven't yet.
The theme for this week is:
EXTRAORDINARY BIRD
My wife and I visited her goldsmith friend whom she hadn't seen since the pandemic. This was last April of this year. To our surprise we found out that he had closed shop and was not doing business anymore. There was a new goldsmith now running the business and so we got to know them. While talking I noticed these 2 feathered creatures hanging around the shop.
These 2 obviously were cocks but they were really small. I pointed them out to the storeowner and she said they were called bantam chicken and that they actually just moved in on their own while the stall was being renovated. They sort of adopted them and began feeding them. Now they wouldn't leave and made the place their home.
Why is it called bantam?
The word bantam derives from the name of the seaport city of Bantam in western Java, Indonesia. European sailors restocking on live fowl for sea journeys found the small native breeds of chicken in Southeast Asia to be useful, and any such small poultry came to be known as a bantam. Wikipedia
I didn't realize these fowls can be kept as pets and that they can actually live in such closed and small places. They were really out of their elements in the store but I guess they are used to that and don't find anything abnormal about their condition.
Anyway, I took some photos of them just in case an opportunity comes along that I can use them. Seems like this is the best time now. For my entry, the photo below is it.
All for now. Best of luck to everyone. May you all have a blessed Sunday.
(All photos are mine. )
Hello dear friend @gems.and.cookies how are you?
It's incredible that these poultry have arrived at the place by themselves, and decided to stay in the business to live.
When I was a teenager my parents had a chicken coop and we had a couple of these chickens, here we call them tikiri
Beautiful shots, I appreciate you showing us these beautiful little chickens
Have a wonderful Sunday
They really look very strange and very small. So they call them tikiri in your place. Thanks for sharing the info and for dropping by. Appreciate it. I hope you had a blessed Sunday.
I have seen bantam chicks but I did not know where their name comes from.
Nice shots, especially the entry photo with the reflection.
Thanks @nelinoeva. I was actually planning to use these photos for the Reflection Contest but decided to enter them here at SMAP. It's much more fitting to our theme this week.
This is flattering to choose SMaP. Thank you so much!
