Between Emotion and Logic: A Battle of Decisions.

There are many times in our life when we take some decisions on impulse, which may seem right at the time, but later we realize its pros and cons. In my own experience I encountered a time when my emotions were pulling me in one direction, and reality in another. It was difficult to make the right decision, but what happened in the end taught me a valuable lesson.

I had just started my career, new environment, new challenges—everything was out of the question. One day while working on an important project, I decided to make a design change. From my experience, it seemed that this change would have a good effect on the results, so I implemented it. But then my boss got really upset about the whole thing. After complaints from the owner, my boss got even angrier and removed me from the project and sent me to another site.

At that time I felt that maybe what I had done was wrong. My confidence was shaken, because I took the decision purely on my emotions. But I knew that my thinking was not entirely wrong—that was proved when the final results of the work arrived. In the end, that change made the project more viable, and my boss, who was very unhappy with my decision at first, eventually accepted that I was right.

But here is the big question, if I had done this change wrongly, then maybe instead of this praise, my career would have suffered a big blow. Making decisions driven by overconfidence and passion can often lead to good results, but there are also risks. I learned from this experience, it is not good to make rash decisions based on emotions. It is important to analyze every aspect in the light of logic in the work.

Since this incident I have become more patient when making decisions. Now I understand, we need to control our emotions before taking every important decision. If we are overconfident or angry when making a decision, we should stop and think—is this decision just because of my feelings, or is it actually the right one?

I learned an important lesson from my experience—emotion can sometimes push us down the wrong path, and sometimes it gives us the courage to move forward. So before taking every decision we should think balancing emotion and reality. Because, at the end of the day, the right decision is the key to our success.
