How I Deflect Stress From Work - LOH #182
Despair is the right word that comes to mind when I envision myself not having job. I can only imagine the restlessness that would consume me and my thoughts. I feel exonerated knowing that, it is just a thought. (Smiles)
Having a job could stem from owning your personal business, working for someone or an organization. Ones you secure yourself a job, which becomes a source of income (that may include any other stream of income), gives you a certain purpose, and you do your best. With this, stress associated with job is inevitable.
My line of work makes it possible for me to communicate with a lot of people on a daily basis (working days). You would agree with me that each person is uniquely different from the other. Societal, cultural and individual differences are qualities that make dealing with people quite complex. Each person has to be uniquely studied to be able to build rapport, based on grounds favorable to your customer, yourself and your company at large.
Most customers vent their frustrations on us, some could even be verbally abusive because, we represent our company, and they see us to be responsible for any form of dissatisfaction. Well, they are not entirely wrong, if you represent your company, you are the company technically.
I must stay, this usually has a way of tearing you down and stressing you out at the end of the day.
How do I deflect stress from work?
I psyche my mind to not be affected.
I have been with my company for a couple of years to know my way around. I take an intentional effort to try and separate myself from my job. That being said, it doesn’t mean I fail in my work, on the contrary, I do my very best and meet my Keep Performance Indicators at the end of every month. What I mean by separating myself is to not let something which is directed at the company personally affect my emotions as if they were directed at me. I stay professional and empathize with my customers.
I do not take my work home
I let whatever happens at work stays at work, as soon as I am done for the day, I block out work and return home focusing on matters that concerns the house.
I Talk It Out with Colleagues
It is very common to have the experience of angry customers coming for our heads. Sometimes on break or after work, we share our experiences and release the stress it comes with it.
So far, I have not had any health complications or issues with my family concerning my work or the stress that comes with it. And no, I would not prefer to take my work to the house.

Being able to separate work from home life is excellent when one is able to cut off completely. Once you fulfill requirements in workforce which you are paid, at home one needs to be able to relax and let go.

You are technically right by controlling your mind not to be affected. That's the central point where everything starts and head down to depression. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Front line staff like Customer service is a tough job and not the place for new employees to start them at without some training and guidance on company policies. My niece works as a Cashier at a high volume grocers, and the stories she tells me and stressful no doubt. I agree, what happens at work, stays at work.
If we project the backlash from work to the house, we would simply go insane. It's best we drawn a line. Thanks for your addition.
